Great reaction, as others have said the girls are not playing the guitars it's more for show and esp wanting to sell mini arrows, lol. Su-metal, the girl that sang during Painkiller is the lead vocalist. Yuimetal (sadly left due to health reasons in 2018 ) and Moametal are primarily backup singers and dancers, they do have a few songs where they take the lead, these songs are known as black Babymetal songs. Rob is such a great guy he went out of his way to match the Babymetal colour scheme as well, and it's just a great moment all round, love their voices together. Can't wait for the next one. BABYMETAL - BABYMETAL DEATH - LIVE at Legend 1997 #NotACult 🤘🦊🤘

Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey, it's been a while 🦊🤘🔥 I remember your reaction along with your wife being skeptical about this group, that's a shame but I highly suggest you to come back and watch songs that really portrait how is BM performing live such: - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997. - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official. - Karate live at Download Festival 2016. - Megitsune official MV or live at Budokan 2014 And if you wanna appreciate the Kami Band instruments you got songs with melting faces solo like: - "Rondo Of Nightmare" with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014. - Catch Me If You Can live at Budokan 2014. This was an epic clash of Metal God and Fox God 🦊🤘🔥 There's an interview you can find after this with both of them, really fun. Rob Halford said he was so excited about this that even bought a cloth to match up with the colors of the girls. lol And he's waiting for another chance to collaborate together on a new song. Is all about fun and having a good time with a metal legend and the future of the metal sound. Our girls we'll never forget Rob's kind words and support when saying: _"Stay metal."_ 🤘 One of the girls, MoaMetal can actually play the guitar and she took some lessons before this, the other girl (YuiMetal ) might be mimicking. In an interview MoaMetal got this question and she pretty much said she did played the guitar. Thanks for sharing this iconic fun moment on BM career. 🦊🤘🔥

Welcome back, good reaction. In the interview afterwards Rob (absolute gent) was full of praise for the girls describing them as "Fearless heavy metal monster ladies" ... that made them giggle. They were only going to do 'Breaking the Law' originally, but Rob was enjoying rehearsing with them so much that he said "Let's do Painkiller as well", so they put this mash up of the two songs together. One of the girls (Moa - on the right as we look at them) could play a bit, the other (Yui) was a beginner, but they are not guitarists, they are the singers / dancers. At the end of their UK tour supporting Red Hot Chilli Peppers later that year they did this mash up of 'Painkiller' and 'Breaking the Law' again, but Su did all the vocals by herself and Chad Smith from RHCP was all dressed up as a Kami Band member and was playing drums - there are a couple of fancam videos of that if you're interested. Not so long ago Rob Halford said he would love to collaborate again with BABYMETAL, but this time to record a new song with them in Japanese. Tyyppl has made a couple of good suggestions for a couple more reactions, you can find high quality videos for the 'Headbanger' performance uploaded by abr metal or Gans Tomas. Another suggestion would be 'Karate' - the official video is very good, live at Download UK 2016 is a fan favourite and live at Budokan 2021 shows the quality of their live productions. For BABYMETAL doing Prog Metal 'Tales of the Destinies' live at Tokyo Dome in 2016 - I think you would really enjoy 'From Dusk Till Dawn' live at Budokan 2021.

Nice one, thanks! The general consensus is that the girls are not playing (or are vary low in the mix). But, to be fair with them, Moa (the one on the right) can play, although she admitted she should practice more. And Yui was a beginner. Like many others, I'm a lifelong metalhead, old school converted into a die hard BABYMETAL fan. I consider myself 99,98% a kitsune. 😁And I have to say that seeing them perform with Halford makes me very proud of them all. Huge respect on both sides and all of them were having a great time on stage. Perfect! We can't say the sabe about most of the crowd and the production of this video was, at least, unfortunate. I second the suggestions for "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997) and add this one: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014). Until next time! 🤘🦊

Good reaction. Moa (on the right on your screen) may have been playing guitar, she could play a bit, Yui (on the left of your screen) less likely as she was very much a beginner and if they were playing they were low in the mix - but they had said they were nervous about playing live and had been practising hard, so who knows. Its not like the main riff for 'Breaking the Law' is too hard and they had a couple of the very best guitar teachers with them (Mikio Fujioka (R.I.P Jan 2018) and Takayoshi Ohmura) to help them learn it. They did have their own custom 3 quarter size ESP guitars here, but no, they are not instrumentalists - they are singers and dancers so you won't see them doing this again (Moa may have recorded acoustic guitar for another song and appeared on stage with an acoustic for that on her 20th birthday in 2019, but just miming it for that performance).

Yeah I imagine like someone said Su pretty much did all the singing so seems like they gave Yui and Moa a guitar to be part of it. Babymetal did a song or two before this so they would have done there usual dancing and back up vocals. Babymetal are a Jpop metal Fusion and it's more about the whole package and show. as a few big metal artists that support the girls, have seen they work hard and can see there value in the industry. They are like a gate way for people to get into metal or pop, it's a beautiful sight when you see a diehard metal fan next to a five year old girl cosplaying as the girls.

I'm glad you decided to give BabyMetal another chance. I was thinking of writing to you on patron and asking you not to give up on them. I had the same reaction you did after listening to Give Me Chocolate but I couldn't get the singers voice out've my head so I gave them another chance. I watched Road of Resistance Live in Japan and I was floored. Now I'm all in on them. Hope you do more!

Whe I discovered BABYMETAL back in 2017, I was quite happy seeing them together with one of the heroes of my youth! Fun fact: The girls are calling him uncle Rob ever since. Originally, they've supposed to only perform "Breaking the Law" but they all had so much fun while rehearsing together that they decided to also do "Painkiller". BABYMETAL also did perform those two songs later on together with the Red Hot Chilly Peppers when they were touring together!

Yui and Moa were playing live for the opening riff. Just listen to how fat it sounds and then compare to how it sounds when it comes back around late in the song. The girls were turned down in the mix during the first verse or so. Yui was beginner level here and did not really continue studying guitar. Moa does play guitar, but is not an advanced shredder, and doesn't play live with Babymetal otherwise. So the heavy lifting was left to the kamiband. The guitars Yui and Moa have are short scale custom and were gifted to them during their first trip outside Japan for a gig in Singapore. I think having them shred a song like Painkiller might have been a dream of Kobametal, likely not shared by the girls, but only the fox god knows. I believe the guitars are currently in the Babymetal museum.

If your concept of a metal band is/are playing their own instrument, writing their own song, deep growling voice, angst, the world is against you type of a band, then BABYMETAL is not for you and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You don't have to force yourself to like them. The girls also do not need anyone's approval to continue what they have been doing for over a decade. If you happens to like them, the fan base will always welcome you to the fox hole. If it's otherwise, we wish you a safe journey on which ever musical direction that you're on.

Yes please, do more. I will not say gimme chocolate does not represent their music but it certainly does not represent their discography by any means. All BM's songs are different as Moa said their first album was just an entrance, by middle development of the firs album, 2, 3 and "4" their discography turn out insane. You will find every genre possible with this band, traditional metal, djent as well ofc. I would recommend some unusual song for first reactions like Starlight to you but Headbanger would be fun as well 🤟🦊

The girls don't play guitar. They dance in the shows. Playing guitar isn't their skillset. They were trained to be pop stars. They can dance, sing, act and model. They were signed to the Amuse talent agency, after competing in talent shows, around the age of 10 and were in various projects. The only reason a ridiculous project like Babymetal was able to get such talented girls is that they were extremely young and weren't expected to have economic value yet. Their talent agency was happy to put them in anything that didn't lose too much money. They were doing other projects at the same time in the early years of Babymetal.

Although BABYMETAL calls itself metal, they are in some ways dance performers, in some ways rock 'n' rollers, in some ways jazz musicians, and in some ways metal. Music is not about genres. It only means whether it is good or bad. When I listen to BABYMETAL, they remind me that music is free.

Yeah the girls were not actually playing. I guess they just thought it would look cool to have the girls mime playing the guitars since they obviously don't gave choreo for these songs so they wanted to have the girls do something. The girls don't play any instruments because they sing and dance so they have their backing band (the kami band) doing the playing. I would recommend Road of Resistance (live in Japan) or Headbanger from Legend of 1997 concert (the lead singer Su metal was born in 1997 hence the name. The concert was actually played in 2013). Those songs should give you and idea of what babymetal really is about.

Should watch the interview at this show with Rob Halford and BabyMetal. They where only going to do one song , but Rob said lets do two . Afraid a lot of people do not give BabyMetal the respect Rob does because they have preconceptions of how music especially metal should sound and be performed like . Being commercial is not a bad thing how many artists die in poverty then people make the money from their art . 😁 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

BABYMETAL is a "Sing and Dance Metal Unit" and the Kami band is a group of top notch session musicians that accompanies them for live shows. No "traditional" band has as much variety in their music as Babymetal and they have so far released 4 studio albums since their formation in 2010. Su and Moa have dedicated more than half their lives to this group and yet they are only 25 and 24 years old respectively. They always give 100% and act with utmost professionalism. I think it would have been unfair to not let Moa and Yui on stage since they were 2/3 of Babymetal and they obviously couldn't have them just stand there. Moa can however play the guitar a bit. I will recommend a few songs based on your preference for "old-school" metal. 1. "Road of Resistance" Live in Japan 2. "Headbanger" at Legend 1997 3. "Babymetal Death" at Legend 1997 4. "Akatsuki" at Budokan Black Night 2014 5. "Ijime Dame Zettai" at Sonisphere UK 2014 I think number 3 is "thrash metal", it's basically an instrumental piece and that specific show is amazing because it marked the moment Su-metal was reborn as a metal goddess. They offer so many other styles too, but I thought these might be a good starting point for you, but only the Fox God knows.

Hey Nick this is nice I'm glad you decided to try another Babymetal, although not very representative of them since it's just a nice cover/collaboration. The thing with BM is that you have to think of them as a whole entertainment act, not like a traditional band where it's just musicians playing their instruments. I think you would enjoy Tales of the Destinies since it's very proggy and I think you will be surprised :)

This was a fun performance but still not truly indicative of what Babymetal can really do or what they're really about. Highly recommend doing Road of Resistance live on Japan, then Metal Kingdom (the difference in seeing them perform so young to now when they're grown up and their voices have matured is a really cool contrast) Rock on brother!
