KOBA METAL, the producer of BABYMETAL, has a respect for India as he has been seriously studying and practicing yoga for about 30 years.

Great reaction. On the Metal Galaxy album released in 2019 BABYMETAL explored and paid homage to several different cultures and musical styles from around the world. 'Shanti Shanti Shanti' was their tribute to Indian culture and music. They take what they do very seriously and when they pay homage they take that seriously too, so they made the meaning of the song, the sound of the music and the choreography as near as they could to the real thing - it really is a tribute to and appreciation of the culture. Moametal has said that getting the hand movements right in the choreography was very difficult since those movements are so different to anything she had ever learned or done in Japanese dance. Other styles they paid tribute to on the Metal Galaxy album included Finnish polka (and possibly other European influences) with 'Oh! Majinai', Spanish/Latin with 'Night Night Burn', Thai summer festival with 'PA PA YA' (featuring Thai rapper F Hero). There are more - and on the most recent album they have an Arabic/Egyptian/MiddleEastern influenced trance metal song called 'METALIZM.

Nice & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。"Musical diversity" is what BABYMETAL are always pursuing. This song has been welcome by many people with Indian background like you. I am sure Team BABYMETAL is happy to see that reaction. I can imagine how diligently the songwriter, choreographer, Su / Moa, and Kamis tried to understand and study Indian music and dance moves. They took a risk of being called "fake" or "cheap copy" of Indian music whereas they really wanted to create their own metal music with comfortable Indian flavor paying their due respect to the culture.

As another Indian reactor said, "this is cultural APPRECIATION, and not appropriation". BABYMETAL is so respectful and talented. From the Choreographer, the Girls, the Kami Band, to the entire team that puts their shows together. Love this song. Everything about it. Happy you enjoyed it. 🤘🦊🤘

_Accha accha accha acchaaa_ 🦊🤘🔥 Glad to see you're back with this suggestion, it's been a while. We know copyright blocked is a pain but hopefully you'll find with our guidance at least a bunch of clips usually safe to react. This journey to Metal Galaxy on their 3rd album got a lot of songs picking up rhythms from all over the world and combine with the unique sound of BM. Shanti Shanti Shanti got a clear Indian influence and elements, others songs got folk metal or latin rhythms, or Thai rap, so this journey is wild. Gj spotting the Hindi words and the meaning behind. They got another song with a title referred to mythology called "MAYA" but the sound is nothing like this. Thee third backup dancer or _avenger_ is Kano Fujihira, just remember none of them got official name revealed and aren't official members, but that status change recently with MomoMetal. MoaMetal talked about this saying it was one of the hardest choreo to match up and get in sync with every one of the avenger, especially at Legend Metal Galaxy when all the avengers switch up in the same show (also taking it a break) while Moa performing the full set. But it was a great experience for her, YuiMetal was also known as the "angel of dance" and she was the most technical among them, Moa took this challenge after she left and focus on this dance aspect learning a lot from the experience with the avengers and backup dancers before them. If you wanna know more about them i highly suggest you to to check it out "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery, you'll get the basics, at least until early 2021. And btw don't try to figure it out BM sound, although the premise is to fuse J-pop with metal sound, they have some songs without so much metal but still enjoyable, they're here to break any genre rules, but you'll find they got a bunch of power/speed metal songs like Road Of Resistance, Ijime Dame Zettai, Akatsuki and Amore. Next suggestion if you want to hear another exotic song like this but from the new album: - METALIZM official MV, is safe to react so you won't have any issue. Keep enjoying your journey with more songs. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Babymetal's music is like a sample box of different styles of metal and pop fused together, they are also aware they have fans in India so as well as continuing their theme of finding new styles to put together it is also a way of saying to their Indian fans, we see you and we acknowledge you, and also a way of saying to their other fans, hey why don't you check out some Indian bands. Being accused of cultural appropriation is always a risk when doing things such as this but I think they did show respect by working hard to get the choreography right as well as the singing and the writing of the song. They also have done songs with a Latin American flavor, European Folk, Thai and of course Western rock and pop.

So they have a few songs that are heavily influenced by cultures or genres. Some of the strong cultural influenced songs are: Megitsune, strong Japanese influence. Shanti Shati, strong Indian influence. Oh! Majinai!, strong Irish/Keltic? influence. Metalizm, strong Arabian? influence. Night Night Burn! strong Spanish influence. Then you can go into the strong genre influenced songs: Tales of the Destinies, progressive metal. Road of Resistance, power metal. The One, although not a genre very strong old school Dream Theater vibes.

It was a true pleasure listening to your reaction. I have long had a fascination-as a westerner-to Indian culture. That's to say that when I first heard this I fell in love with it. But I lack the cultural background someone from India would so seeing your postive reaction was a real delight. For myself I can only say that Babymetal are always pushing their own boundaries and I've rarely seen or heard a mistep. Again I love this performance and it was wonderful getting to hear your reaction.

This is such a beautiful comment. I am glad you could relate to it. As a metalhead myself for many many years it's a great Honor for me to see a band getting influenced or inspired by Indian culture. 🙂🤘🎵

Very enjoyable and even a bit educational reaction, thank you! I don't think you can define the sound of BABYMETAL, almost all their songs sound different from each other. There are however some essential songs like "Headbanger live at Legend 1997", "Road of Resistance live in Japan", "Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014" and "Akatsuki live at Budokan Black Night 2014". There are more but these will do for now!

Man, sometimes their are amazing reactions I seemed to have missed, thanks man, glad you enjoyed that. Babymetal really try to balance what they reference/pay homage to and their own voice, when this first came out this was the song I repeated the most.

First of all, there is no concept of cultural appropriation in Japan. You either like it or you don't. But most Japanese are positive about Indian culture. Yoga is a staple of culture schools, chai is drunk in ordinary homes, and everyone knows about bindis and chakras, even intellectuals. Some children learn how to do three-digit multiplication the Indian way. Dance and music, sitar and tabla, are well accepted, and on hot summer nights, for example, amateur musicians hold Hindustani music events at temples all over Japan, where large crowds come to listen. Babymetal's dancing and music are top-notch, so it was wonderful to see Indian music in this form. Fans even learned the words Shanti Shanti Shanti (repeated three times, right?). And it was wonderful that you enjoyed it. Thank you. Others have mentioned a little more middle eastern style METALIZM kzfaq.info/get/bejne/feBpks1iuNa8ZXk.html I would like to see a response to this as well.

👍 👍 Well done on choosing a LIVE video performance. Always react to LIVE when possible because that is where BabyMetal shines. BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began. All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.) Suggest reacting to these for a start. Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls. Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021 Syncopation LIVE Yava LIVE with Kami Band intro at 2017 Fox Festival Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan Headbanger LIVE Tales of the Destinies LIVE Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member. Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.

Well done for not watching the "official" video - which is AWFUL visually (the majority of their choreography is missing while the camera stays on the main screen watching the kaliedascope patterns) - whoever did it should have been fired on the spot imo. If Indian music was more like this I'd be an instant fan - Good reaction :D. They did take in influences from several countries for one of their albums at one stage (with varying success imo - not a fan of the English version of Elevator girl or Oh Majinah personally). To throw my hat in the ring I'd say they're MUCH better off sticking to the Japanese language and their culture personally - but their premiere audience is Japan - and they maybe think singing in (American) English is cool?
