Sleep training methods fall on a spectrum from "no cry" or "gentle" methods all the way to "extinction." In this video we go over that spectrum, and what you should look for when deciding what sleep training method is right for your family! Pssst! The Baby Sleep Trainer method falls in the middle, and is also great for highly sensitive babies (watch and learn why).

Some great info here, I particularly enjoyed the nuanced you added at the end describing how the method has more impact or less impact depending on the baby’s temperament.

This was great! Thank you! my baby is a high needs baby and almost 9 mo old and I have been researching how to sleep train him. it was very helpful to hear that the more hands off I can be the better for him. I tried the pick up put down a few times and recognized immediately that made it worse so I just removed myself and he didn't get so worked up.

Thank you! The explanation you had at the end was so helpful and makes so much sense now. We've tried different training methods for months and months, including hiring a sleep consultant, and most things if they end up working, only work for a couple of weeks. My baby always gets extremely angry when I'm in the room trying to soothe her without nursing her to sleep. I even climbed into the crib with her to see if she just wanted me there with her and she was still angry. Whew, hoping we can figure this out soon.

Many kids do this - you’re not alone! When your presence is making it worse, usually scaling back your presence is the answer.

How about reflux babies who are very uncomfortable? Would you suggest a less hands on approach even if they are in pain?

I’ve always heard of the Ferber method as the next strongest sleep training method below extinction. However I have an EXTREMELY strong willed baby and I attempted this and still by day 4 she screamed for an hour or more straight. Seemed like she was passing out from exhausting herself screaming, i refused to do it any longer because it seemed sooo horrible for her. And I refused to do extinction. What option is there at that point

i wanted to become a client when my daughter was 6 months. my husband thought it was unnecessary. she is now 14 months and i cannot tell you the regret i feel for not just signing up anyway.

Just wondering when you're beginning sleep training, is it better to start with the bedtime or naps? Also, this information is super helpful, thank you so much!

Thanks for the information. My little one has been self settling for nearly 2 years and it’s only been a hand full of days that she has gone to bed without crying! Not sure if it’s normal but she is a crier before bed and nap time.. 😩
@Babysleeptrainer
@Babysleeptrainer 2 жыл бұрын
TOTALLY normal! I tell my clients most babies cry at least a little bit before falling asleep for naps and bedtime. Sometimes some kids just need to let off a little steam before they fall asleep. Anything 15ish mins or less is typical.
@tamaraseneviratne2719
@tamaraseneviratne2719 2 жыл бұрын
Good to know.. anything more than the 15-20 mins would you say is an issue? Sometimes it could be a short cry but other days it could go on for about 25/30 mins
@Babysleeptrainer
@Babysleeptrainer 2 жыл бұрын
@@tamaraseneviratne2719 I’d say any situation where the child is consistently crying more than 15-20 mins to fall asleep may indicate that a child needs an adjustment in their schedule.

Hi, have you done this with your own babies during your motherhood journey? If so, maybe i missed the video , i'd appreciate the link.

I did - I actually developed my method during my early motherhood. I mention stories about it through out my videos, but I’ll work on one addressing this specifically. Thanks for the good idea!

Great video! Can I ask a white lose question? My baby is fully trained with your method, and sleeps with white noise. How long should I let them sleep with the white noise? Is it ok for 2-3 yo and older to sleep with white noise? What if there is no white noise in the daycare my baby will go after 1yo? Thank you in advance!’
@Babysleeptrainer
@Babysleeptrainer 2 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! I’d keep it indefinitely at home, and allow daycare to make their own choice with it. Baby will learn to adjust to sleeping without white noise at daycare.

Babies do not express their feelings by crying!!!! Babies are in stress when they cry and inform their mothers that they need her! They have instincts going on, not feelings as the way you say it. How in the world are these crying out methods still legal? Babies do not „learn“ how to sleep alone, they learn that they are left alone! How can you let your own child cry its lungs out? That’s so scary and sad…

The cookie analogy to not letting a baby cry is honestly the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard. You clearly have a preference to let a baby cry when they want assistance with sleep. I wouldn’t portray yourself to be open to all methods-
@DaniBella76
@DaniBella76 Жыл бұрын
How is it asinine ? I guess you waking up every two hours and it taking you an hour to settle your baby back to sleep is fine for you.
