I have zero doubt that Yuri survived this. In the original MW3, let alone storyline, he… -Got shot point blank by Makarov. -Slid down a steep muddy hill into rapids while a gunship was targeting him. -Fell out a multi story building that exploded. -Was punched down a flight of stairs head first. -Was impaled by a piece of rebar in a hotel. And every time he got back up and kept on going.

Gets invaded by the best army in Europe, the Swedes, beats the shit out of them and removes them from the list of great powers and into a pacifist country. Gets invaded by fucking Napoleon Bonaparte and the largest invasion in European history up to that point, annihilates the best army in Europe and takes Paris 2 years later. Gets invaded by Germany...TWICE within 30 years: takes Berlin and makes Germany it's bitch for the next 50 years. And our strategy is to...antagonize them? Not make them our best friend and closest ally? American leadership is truly fucked lol.

It's called plot armor. Getting one wiff of gas is enough exposure. This isn't something like CS gas where it's a crowd dispersing irritant. US military gas mask training drills give you seconds from "Gas! Gas! Gas!" warning to hold your breath immediately, close your eyes, pull out your gas mask from its carrier, and then don and clear your mask. Time is such an issue in this kind of emergency that the training states that you MUST don and clear your own mask first before anyone else. If you screw this up? Too bad buddy, you're gonna die. You're not sprinting through a whole damn building, CLIMBING LADDERS and all that physical activity forcing you to breathe, and not take in the gas. If this was real she'd be dead and it's game over.

I remember playing this campaign, just how naively high my expectations were. I thought the very first mission you were playing as Yuri, and that throughout he would slowly see how insane Makarov truly was and eventually either get shot and left behind, or betray Malarov first and join 141 in a blood thirsty gambit for revenge... Instead he's in a 5 minute cutscene and then completely disappears.

Im pissed for two reasons 1. His new design for his look is terrible, he looks like a skinhead now, no badass tattoos either (i get it’s a reboot but at least try to make him look similar, also the face looks really weird 2.
