There's a common theory that the chords aren't meant to played literally, but as the basis of an improvisation. Lots of cellists do their own individual version. I forget if this version is written out in Starker's edition of the suites, but transcribing what he does here is very easy.

@@georgieg2038 Anner Bylsma, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Wen Sinn Yang, Pieter Wispelwey, Colin Carr's 1st recording (he later changed his mind and now prefers the simpler version). I'm sure you can find more.
