Bach's C minor toccata is divided into three sections: we have a prelude in "toccatistic" style, then we have a ruminative adagio of imitative counterpoint, full of yearning dissonances and based loosely on the rising harmonic minor scale, and finally, a three-voice fugue with a double exposition, in which Bach demonstrates his mastery to the fullest. C minor has long been one of the most iconic keys in music history, and this toccata exemplifies its dramatic and powerful carachter.
Playing Bach on piano requires a lot of creativity by the performer, since there is not a standard way to play it. Broberg's performance is really enjoyable to listen to; there is a staccato in some passages, and the progression of the thematic episodes is very natural. Janssen has a more edgy and unconventional approach.
