One of the three locos you voted for to have a service and running session, I get to grips with this most awkward of models for servicing.
Be warned! I get annoyed.

I couldn’t agree more ! An absolute pig of a loco to disassemble and I’ve broken several bits off of mine which I bought second hand from eBay . I initially serviced it when I got it after a brief test run as per practice , however it doesn’t like the 2nd radius curves too much on my layout.

I’m so glad you’ve covered this model. I picked up a second hand one, which was a pig to service. The pipes you had problems with, mine were glued to the chassis. So I had to force the pipes out, to remove the body. Luckily they stayed intact. When replacing, I filed the slot where pipes slotted in the chassis a little bigger, to allow a better fit. Lovely loco though.

Hi Mike - Glad it was you and not me trying to do that service. By now I would be sending it off to be repaired. Excellent service and update, wonder what you would be like with my N gauge LOL.

Is it just me or does this servicing video feel nostalgic to me. I've also tried to center the chassis as it's going back into the body, It somewhat helped but it was still hard getting it back in. Great video ;) Cheers Jasper & Willow

Really good video. Locos that are not designed for easy maintenance are an absolute pain. What on earth were Bachmann thinking with this one? Good old Lima diesels may be crude by modern standards but so simple, robust and a doddle to work on by comparison. Which probably explains why I have so many of them still in service.

Hi Paul oh me to. I think Bachmann greatly improved after this one, they even dropped the speedo.

Yes, but look at the Lima Crab. Frankly one of the most unpleasantly engineered models I’ve ever encountered. A pure howler. Their diesels are possibly the easiest models to work on. A joy. The crab may not be the most difficult, but it’s amongst the least pleasant to work on.

Hi Mike, I don't own this model and I'm not very keen on Bachmann. Have two Bachmann nightmares and it's enough. But your service video is very interesting and a great help for those who need their 4MT tank serviced. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Filip

I have two of these and yes they are an absolute pain to service with the detail parts that break off etc.

You got the engine running. OK, that's engine no. 1 up and at 'em. Perhaps Leander might be no. 2 to be serviced. Of course, you decide the order you do it in. You're the boss here.😂

I'll add it to the list. However they can be purchased from various UK outlets. I usually just find the best price and go with that. You need 102, 106 and 108 to cover all needs.

The service sheets are a great resource from Lendons. Every other manufacturer now publishes these. Poor show Grafar

I dccd mine (also 2nd hand) bought for £55) I remember the long screws in the middle and the pipework problem. I didnt service it so its another foreboding visit. Is there a dissolver you can use to remove the white grease? Thanks Mike

Hi Alan, good luck. Hope I've highlighted the bits you need. The old lube mostly pulled off but IPA would remove it as well.

Oh, yes. They are an [insert numerous expletives to taste] to work on. I really like BR Standard tanks, but this model pushes the preference to the brink.
