Ahead of next month’s British Railway Announcements, and to coincide with the opening of the 2024 Statfold Model Railway Exhibition, we launched our first ever British 7mm Narrow Gauge range - Bachmann Narrow Gauge NG7.

As the 'founder' of The '7mm Narrow Gauge Association', I would like to say a huge thank you to Bachmann. We have waited 45 years for a range of ready-to-run more 'generic' small narrow gauge models in O-16.5. THIS is what I hoped for way back then ans it has taken an inordinately long time. I had a dream back then in 1979 when I kick-started the 7mmNGA and was beginning to think that I might not live to see it become a reality. I tried to persuade the late Lee Riley of Bachmann USA way back when - but he was sadly taken away from us before it could happen.But thanks to Bachmann Europe.......

Bachmann USA needs to step up their game. The Europe division seems to be setting new precedents for ranges and models that us here in the states are missing out on. Bravo!

We have the WW1 2-6-2 that is wrong in every way but it would be really good if Bachmann would bring out the WW1 4-6-0, then I could sell my 009 stuff and Model what i really want.

My father in law looks quite young on Holy War, having sneaked into the quarry to get his picture taken on it! It's fortunate that he's taken so much footage over the past 60 years.

Superb presentation chaps. I’m already into 009 and reckon I’ll stick with that but will love seeing these in the cabinet and exhibitions! Just need a double fairlie in this scale and a Garratt for 009 😉

The flourishing 7mm Narrow Gauge Society is worth investigating if you want to know more. Tighter curves are than 00, so useful for small spaces. Peco have a range of rolling stock kits, and track. There are also many specialist suppliers. O gauge scenery with 00 gauge track. A match made in heaven!

Now if theres a bug box coach on the way theres loads of liveries you can look at, wonder what coach will be first. Was never planning on ever doing 7mm but now I am seriously tempted, these are fabulous.

Added Margaret and Alice as well as an additional purchase of the shed, coal store, and water tower plus two more crew figures, a pack of slate, and a couple more waggons. I do not intend to miss out on a Quarry Hunslet this time 😅 😅.

It would be great if Bachmann brought out some carriages in NG7 of the design used on the Launceston Steam Railway in Cornwall - they would go very nicely with the Hunslet Quarry locos!

Going to been narrow gauge. Would like to see a T3 in LSWR Green 563 at Swanage now in OO scale.

Excellent for small stand alone layouts and will hopefully support the lionheart O-16.5mm and to add some interest to a standard gauge O layout. I'm ;looking forward to these.

Very neat presentation in many ways. Looks like this could be a smart move by Bachmann: for the older amongst us who become less nimble over time we could convert our layouts to NG7 without needing to replace all the track, perhaps? Will the sound option include the three speech pieces in North Wales accent Welsh for a truly authentic experience?

Irish Mail is now at the West Lancs Railway and it was the members there, who rescued Alice from the upper terraces of the quarry. Quite an achievement, it was lowered down the inclines, using the original drum mechanisms, which were still in place - wouldn't pass H&S now !

great video really like the vintage film in the beginning i have been a model rr from the the age of 7 and like hon30 representing Maine two foot but i have but i have come to like the 009 and more now leaning towards a bookshelf rr in this scale at the age of 58 much better on the eyes ,Bachmann has some really nice items now cheers from across the pond!

I have a vast fleet of 00, and some 009 to match. A TT;120 layout under construction for an exhibition in a couple of months, with stock being acquired for a period around 1980. A small amount of N which I rarely use. And reasonable amount of 0, set in the west country. I must not be coerced into NG7... (Was already considering modelling Darent of the HKWR in 0-16.5...)

The only criticism I have is that the voices in the sound system should be in Welsh, as most of the quarrymen knew little or no English (and when they speak it, they did with that lovely sing-song accent). Otherwise, congratulations on the lovely locos.

That’s right, the video shows the models on both OO track and O-16.5 which is the narrow gauge equivalent (different sleeper spacing and appearance)

O-16.5 runs on OO gauge track the same way that 009 can run on N gauge track

Is the OO9 style coupling the European HO style ones Bachmann uses for some of their OO DMUs?

Hi @azuma892, that's correct and the OO9 coupling comes in the accessory pack with each NG7 Quarry Hunslet. We've also developed a 'Chopper' coupling like those used on real Narrow Gauge railways for a more authentic, functional coupling solution. Many thanks

Will the whistle on the DCC sound versions be the same as played at 6:33? The function list says "Bell Whistle" but the audio is a Penrhyn 'Mainline' hooter.

How do your On30 2-6-2 Baldwin's compare to (hopefully) a future Ashover Light Railway 4-6-0 Baldwin? Sureley they'll be little and large unless you model the Ashover models in On30 instead of NG7. Starting a new scale just complicated things further when running stuff together. As it is, NG7 just sounds like a Nottingham postcode.

7mm NG has existed for ages. This isn't starting a new scale - just capitalizing on it.

Hi @Mariazellerbahn, NG7 is a new name, not a new scale, our NG7 range is scaled to 1:43.5, the same as O scale and O-16.5. American On30 models are scaled at 1:48, so you can see that On30 and NG7/O/O-16.5 are modelled to different scales. Many thanks

The locos quote NEM362 coupling pockets, so hopefully Kadee 17,18,19 or 20 should fit.

Got some more criticism that you don’t like here, Bachmann: Why try and get involved in another scale, after your customers have already invested in your 009 range? At no point am I going to buy them all over again, but in a larger scale. This makes as much sense as TT:120 to me.

Have Bachmann invented some sort of witchcraft which make your OO9 models stop working as a result of this announcement? Didn’t think so, so what on earth has this announcement got to do with OO9 modellers, just enjoy what you’ve got and let anyone wanting to try NG7 enjoy that, it is a hobby after all

@@TrainsandPlanes123 I look forward to your comments when this gauge gets abandoned and releases stop coming, because they’ve moved onto Z gauge or something stupid in a few years. When you’ve already invested in something, it’s irritating when further releases are limited, but the manufacturer starts messing around with similar products in all new gauges, for an even more niche market.
