I have been there many times. One time, in the middle of winter, snow on the ground and freezing, i came upon two elderly homeless men living within the cemetery. One had been a boxer and was 'punch drunk' and the other called himself 'Cannonball' and recited the most wonderful poetry he had written. I said he needed to write that down, he said then people would steal his words. Needless to say i came home without my scarf, gloves and jumper.

Ghosts are one of those things that until you experience them for yourself you will always be sceptical BUT when (if) you DO experience them you then realise that there are things in this world that we will probably never understand. It is quite an unnerving explosion inside the brain when you come to realise that ghosts are indeed very real. It was the most disturbing experience I have ever had.

@@PGG418 My grandfather on my mother's side died 42 years ago now. He smoked a very distinctive smelling tobacco in his pipe. Ten years ago my mother died & I was very upset. VERY upset. I had been out shopping one day & when I returned home my house was filled with the strong smell of tobacco smoke, HIS tobacco smoke. I just sat down & cried & said "Thank you, Grandad". I still grieved my mother but I was really fine after that. He came back to tell me that everything was okay.

You mentioned that a lot of raillings were removed during the war but fun fact, a lot of the metal gathered wasn't even used as there was an abundance of it collected but it wasn't mentioned til years later due to it being a way to keep people's spirits up thinking that they were contributing to the war effort.

Hi 👋 I had a great aunt Jean Reoch who lived overlooking Greyfriers Kirkyard I remember visiting her many times when I was young, when I got bored of the adult conversation I would have a wander around the Kirkyard and then cross over to Chambers Street and have a good couple of hours in the Museum. Oh I wish I could go back and live it all over again those were the days. 🥃🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hello interesting fact .Many railings and gates were removed during World War II, ostensibly to be melted down in a morale-boosting drive to help the war effort. The reality was that the iron could not be reused and more often than not it was simply dumped at sea. - This was done to make everyone feel like they were doing something, the reality was , utterly useless amount of effort, done for no good to anybody anywhere. A bit like clapping in covid. Very interesting video, thanks for braving the weather and sharing.

If I recall right, the Black Mausoleum is in fact a seperate mausoleum inside the Covenanters' Prison. Most of the scratch, bruise, or faint incidents are said to have happened there.

Maybe someone needs to pray for the departed. Maybe they are trying to get someone’s attention to be able to get out of purgatory although my own feelings and contemporary family’s religious traditions don’t allow for that I am not going to discount it. Cool beans! I’ve been thinking of that place recently for some reason and how magical it is. Ever since I was a kid and my Edinburgh-born grandfather told me the story of Greyfriar’s Bobby and I read my mother’s copy of the book. I went there in 1989 with my grandparents MacMillan and walked around the area and the kirk yard. Went back in early 90’s for the Festival and saw a wonderful play of “Daniel and the lions” performed in the kirk. Just remembered that. Loved it.

Very cool! I had the opportunity to do a ghost tour of Edinburgh back in 2002. It was great to see this graveyard in the light of day. We didn't experience any paranormal activity that night, but it was great fun nonetheless.

Valley of the Kings was patrolled by military units. Trash after Cologne cemetery. Fabulous sandstone buildings in background.

Great fun, thanks for doing this. Wednesday needs to film here. You haven't seen Edinburgh if you haven't seen this.

E.A. Poe would be excited to sit down in the middle of that place and create one last spooky tale ...
