Gabi I have a huge problem. I sprained my rotator cuff and another part of my shoulder a few months ago and took a month off cheer. I came back, and now I am TERRIFIED to do my handspring. I literally will cry and just repeat "I can't do it." I want to throw it so bad and I feel like I'm disappointing my coaches. Is there any tips you can give me? I can't even throw with a spot.

Have a spotter you reallly trust and begin to do it on a mat or something soft you feel comfortable doing it on😉 I had the same problem after I broke my arm but remember to believe in yourself
@gabibutlercheer
@gabibutlercheer 9 жыл бұрын
Emma Horan Hey Emma! Don't be terrified, you can do it!!!! First off have a good spotter that can support you 100% and that you trust and will help you safely rotate through the handspring. Second make sure you are doing it in a safe environment with lots of soft mats. Lastly its all in your head!! If you tell yourself you can't do it then you probably wont, but if you tell yourself you can do it with confidence and believe in yourself you are more l likely to mentally commit to the handspring! Hope that helps💙

@DancersHit
@DancersHit 9 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this would help you, but possibly finding a coach that can literally take all your weight, get them to lift you entirely off the floor, rotating you really slowly and barely touching the floor, on say super soft mats, and then gradually reintroduce the actual skill and the sit and all that stuff.. Hope you can get it back soon! Believe in yourself!! Xx

I turned my wrist out while bailing in a back handspring around 2/3 months ago. I tried one the other day and it really hurts to do it. I think it's just a repetitive sprain because this has happened before in other skills but it still hurts to do a back handspring without a soft thin mat on the floor.

I've been working on back handsprings and round off back handsprings at a gym for so long. I've been taking tumbling classes once a week for years and I work my ass off. I don't know why I'm so stuck😔. I can do a back handspring on a trampoline now but not in the floor. I was getting so close and I had a really good coach and now we have totally new coaches.He was so good. It sucks because I don't even know if he's coming back and I was getting super close to a round off back handspring😔. I keep getting so close then further and further and idk what to do anymore

Gabi, I have a problem with tumbling because I'm very double jointed in my wrists. I do a few cartwheels and my wrists start hurting. I stretch them out and everything. I wonder if you could help me out with some tips? Do I maybe need wrists braces or??? Thank you so much Gabi!

Im really scared to do this because i'm scared i will jam or break my wrists. Even when I do the bridge(without going off the floor), i sometimes go down too hard and fast and my wrist just jams and it hurts. So if i jump onto my wrists/hands, i'm positive i will break it. Aha. Any tips?

I used to have really weak wrists and that was a constant fear of mine. I used braces like said above but I also do some strengthening exercises to make my wrist stronger. Also stretching them helps to!!!! I hope you get better!!!!
@shelbyw7071
@shelbyw7071 9 жыл бұрын
Always stretch out your wrists. Get on your knees on the floor and place your hands palms down with your fingers facing away from you. Slowly lean forward as far as you can and hold for 20-30 seconds. Then turn your hands palms down with your fingers facing you, then lean backwards as far as you can with your hands still flat on the ground and hold for 20-30 seconds. You can always go into a bridge position to see if your wrists are strong enough to handle your weight. But you should always stretch your wrists before tumbling 😸
@Laneyw116
@Laneyw116 9 жыл бұрын
I used to have a similar problem when i tumbled so i went and got lightweight braces (the athletic kind) from cvs but you could also get them from wegmans or somewhere else. Just wear them when you tumble and it'll help a lot, Also just make sure your stretching out your wrists before and after you tumble. Also you could try to find some way to make your wrists stronger so they would be able to hold more weight. Hoped this helped!

Hi Gabi, this is my third year in cheer. I am on a level 3 team i am one of 3 on my team who doesn't have a back handspring or a tuck. Last April I was doing a running round off back handspring and broke my arm. I am horrified to do either standing or running by myself. Even with a spot I feel defeated. I have always been afraid of a standing. I have both but am having to relearn it , it's so scary for me. When they tell me to do it by myself I have anxiety and panic attacks. I am on level 3 because of my expierence in cheer and being a base. I need tips please to get over the fear. I would hate to let my team down!
