And I can see the resemblance of so many Finns that settled here in North East Minnesota when I was a boy in the 1960s and early 70s. I miss hearing that Finnish accent !

if you like old hockey arenas Tampere has the first hockey arena ever built in Finland. The Hakametsän jäähalli (officially known as Tampereen jäähalli) was the home arena for Tappara and Ilves from 1965 to 2021 when the Nokia Arena was built. The David of this story, Pelicans, has been arming himself. I mean, they invested a lot for this season. They really decided that they want their last season silver to become gold this year. The media widely rated them ahead of Tappara before the season and since then, Pelicans has been investing even more. That squad isn't cheap. Probably cheaper than Tappara's squad, but the gap is marginal. When you are back in Tampere, Hakametsä ice stadium is no-brainer if you have spare time. It's the predecessor of Nokia Arena and the most iconic venue in Finnish hockey.

About Cinderella-stories and as you love goalies, I have to give you the story of the Pelicans goalie, Niklas Kokko. He has been the northern prodigy, often seen as the new Pekka Rinne (long time goalie for Predators in the NHL). He played his junior year in Oulu for Kärpät. This year he attended the U20 WC as the goalie for Finland and he was supposed to be alternating turns with the other in Kärpät goalie, but when he came back from the U20 WC after new year, he didn't have a locker room spot as Kärpät had signed "old and reliable" Tomi Karhunen for the rest of the season. After seeing that he didn't have a spot to show his skills and improve, he was traded to Pelicans in the spring and boy, it has been a show and he has been loving the environment and the responsibility he has been granted! Pelicans had their problems with goalies early in the year as their no.1 goalie was traded early in autumn to Switzerland, I guess following the bigger bag of money and their other goalie getting injured. Niklas came in at the right time to show that despite his young age (turned 20 recently) he has the skills and will to be a superstar in the future. He even overcame Kärpät in the semi-finals and is the story of the spring here in Finland. He has a contract(and was drafter as #58 overall) to Seattle Kraken and is here in Finland to improve before taking the leap over to NHL. I think I speak on behalf of all Pelicans fans, thank you for choosing us and you are welcome as well! :) By the way, awesome vlogs! I love the content, keep it up and congrats about the baby on the way!

Jarmo maybe went a bit too far on Pelicans being the David. I mean, sure, Pelicans is smaller than Tappara by many metrics, but so are most of the teams in the league. Lahti is not a small town by Finnish standards (over 100k people after all) and Pelicans' budget is probably in the top 6 and so was their expected position prior to the season. Granted Pelicans wasn't in the top 3 favourites of many last autumn (those were mostly Tappara, HIFK, and Ilves), but they played in the finals last year as well. It's not a "small" team by any means and I would not call it a Cinderella story. KalPa was kinda making one this season but they were cut short. A small team in the Finnish Liiga would be a team like Jukurit or SaiPa in terms of population and budget.
