NOTE: The blown fuse on the Nav lights happened because I had used a 5 amp fuse - there is a revision page that updates it to a 7.5 amp fuse.

I also have had the noise problem when I transmit on my RV-12. After working through the grounds on the headphone jacks and even replacing them in frustration I opened the avionics bay and reset every pin on the harnesses involved with the radio. I also jiggled and tightened the connection to the radio itself. That seemed to have done the trick.

I flew again yesterday and all was well. Audio problems are bad enough, but intermittent audio problems are the worst.

great video by the way. appreciated the discussion on your maintenance and upgrades. i am based at same airport as gwen and hoping she will allow me to help her do hers first then I can do mine! haha. my gear has been sitting in hangar for quite some time now. procrastinating the install.

Headset wiring should use shielded wire and the shield grounded at *one* end only; either ground the shield at the radio or the headset jack, but not both; may help.

I’ll take a look at that if it comes up again. It’s been working pretty well lately.

At my last annual, I had exact same issue with the brake fluid leak at that junction. I also swear I got what seemed like 1/64 of a turn but after couple weeks of flying, I re-inspected and the 1/64 of a turn must have been the trick.

I’ll give it a few weeks and check again. I don’t think I can get it any tighter, so fingers crossed!

Classic alternator noise. Ground your engine to the frame may help... Heavy gage, like 6 or so, preferably less.

The similarities between watching you and flying the new MSFS is uncanny. I like to take off from KOSU, then T&G at KTZR, KLCK, and KCMH before returning to KOSU. I doubt I'd be able to do that in real life.

dcviper985 It’s really an amazing piece of work. I’m anxious to see how well it works in VR.

What were/are the differences between the old strut and the new one?

There is some internal beefing up of the leg after a single RV-12 with 1,700+ hours as a trainer (basically an abused aircraft) developed a crack. Because the damage is internal, it can’t be inspected, so we all get to buy a $400 replacement.

Gwen Walcott That’s the result of a revision made after mine was done. I have some on order to replace my 5 amp. The comm radio fuse also went up to 7.5 so I have another one on order for that as well. I haven’t had any problems with the radio with the 5 amp, but I might as well get up to spec.
