After a few weeks of being rained out continuously, Ben is back to working on the home addition project. In this recap episode, he’s putting up concrete forms for the footer.

I'm sure you know, but I still have to say it, God bless you for helping your boys become men. We need more of that. So many young boys have no one to show them what a man should do or how to do it.

I have a question there's a group of us that want to buy chickens, meat chickens. Would you recommend doing it in the spring or fall we're a bunch of elderly folks and we're going to do it ourselves

You are a good dad to speak up and say my boys have been a big help. They are 17 years old twins, it shows that you have raised them well. Plus saw buggy wanting her brother to hand her the metal stake to carry over like the big boys. So 😍

The shift from kids helping you out, to young men taking on responsibilty for the addition must be just incredible, but you are the mentor for that healthy growth... And your Indian princess showing up and surprising you, she looks great! The snoopervisor Millie loves her families' company... But does need an occasional break from all the stress of the build... I learn so much watching and listening to you that I feel like I've been to an intro class on consumers "Common Sense." Your family is a pleasure to watch and learn from...

My two oldest babies, son and daughter(19,17) just lost their father. But it’s so pleasing to me to see you raise your babies and specifically your boys in to hard working young men. And seeing buggy get to see how men are supposed to be. Thanks for letting us watch along the journey ❤

All those pickled eggs look absolutely delicious, as did the egg salad and the bacon and yum on that pudding! I was so hungry for everything you make! Looks amazing! Buggy is such a great little helper and so cute “teaching” her mama how to peal eggs!

I just love your Millie Cat. She's such a sweet kitty to keep you guys company while you are outside working. She appreciates you all being there, you can tell. I adopted an outdoor kitty last year, (brought her in the house, because she has no claws on her front paws - that wasn't me, she came to us that way), and she is my garden kitty. She has spent the winter inside with us, getting a little chubby, and I know she can't wait to be outside in the garden with me again. She's such a lover though, as soon I am near her, she is climbing me to be able to curl up against me and give me kisses. I sense that same appreciation from Millie.

The foundation of a building is just like the foundation of your family. You can't have good, solid, level and square when the foundation is out of whack. Go slow, build a little and double check with your level & square and when the foundation is done, the rest goes so fast and easy and it flows naturally. You and your boys are doing a great job. You are getting closer to the easy part.

I enjoy your videos, and the closeness of your family. You guys are doing a good job teaching your children good work ethics, and family values. It will pay dividends as they grow into adulthood. Our world is suffering from the lack of parents being there for their children as they grow up.

I love watching your kids/young men work with you and Meg. By the time they are out on their own, they'll be able to build a house, fix a car, weld an iron fence, grow food, etc... The only thing i learned from my parents was how to not drink or smoke whilst your father is sitting in front of you with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

I would have made the new extension the whole length of the existing so that Meg can have a far bigger kitchen to reflect her cooking, baking and preserving skill - how she manages in that cramped little kitchen is amazing, she’s a total hero

I think it looks great. Having your boys working with you, is a blessing. Do it right the first time can be slow. Like in doing carpentry, measure twice. Cut once. Is the best way moving forward. Things will go faster once you got the foundation done. Have a blessed weekend.

You can stick the stakes in the ground beside a garden bed and then thread a PVC pipe over the ends that are sticking out and create a low tunnel with plastic or insect netting or row cover. I reuse my stakes everywhere in the garden.

The footing forms look nice Ben! I'm glad you've got all the help with the boys. Yes, getting a bunch of concrete stakes is a necessity when you have to do this footing work. It looks like you're making a bunch of progress. Thanks for this video Hollar family!

You will be thrilled when it's completed and you admire your own handy work knowing your sweat equity built that. May the good Lord bless you in your endeavors to make space for the family and the little one to come. I'd sure like to have one more room in this house just to store my canning supplies and the canned food from my summer/fall garden. Thank the good Lord for the roof over my head and everything He's given me to make it comfortable. God has been so good to me all my life, even when I didn't acknowledge Him for it.

Your footings need to be 1 sold footing. What I mean is dont close the ends when your dropping to a lower step. Bend rebar at a 90° in your step down.

You mentions Ben in one of your last posts that your garden beds were getting to the end of their life - next year when you have time to replace those beds use the concrete stakes to hold everything in place

If you can afford to get things to make the build easier, by all means do it. Saving money is important, but so is your time. Knowing you, with your welding skills, those stakes will come in handy down the line.

I was going t say, but I think you already did (LOL) that I hope the inspector comes to approve all the hard work you have done setting up the forms, Ben, BEFORE you have to pour concrete. It will make the build go faster, I think. It is also sad that you had to use some of the lumber for the forms and not for the floor beams. Lumber has to be very expensive now. I look forward to all of your upcoming videos whether they include the build or not. You guys ROCK!

This method is significantly more involved! May you get to drying concrete before any major rain storm and the baby has come. Well, before the summer like heat fully hits too.
