Early season is the best time to review basic skills. I begin by hiking a small slope to practice basic gliding, snowplow and stem turns (these maneuvers contain all the movements we need to ski dynamically). This review may only be a few passes but the warm up of sidestepping up a hill then focusing on stance as you glide down are fundamental to enjoying a great season. Going out and expecting to hit it like a hero without this warm up for me is irrational.

Very good advice. I like your style smooth and agressive that is very difficult to do 👍

Good stuff. That last move, rolling into the turn in the air and hitting the down slope was pure badass. Respect.

Did this. First few runs of the year we took it slow, the goal was efficient movements. Thanks Kili.

Awesome to see that you going back to the basics! This is what how our kids (6 & 7 now) started out with and will probably do this year again, as well. I'll make sure to get into it this way, as well.

Thank’s for the amazing tips. But you never talk about your skis… What is the angle of your ski edges? They look really « agressive ».

Welcome back... But you still ski so bad I don't know how you can get out of bed in the morning. But seriously: This season I want you to take us for a few ''Itinerary runs' With Your Ski-buddies. You know: On your day off. Just ripping around. NO Demos or frikkn' Exercises. Zermatt must have one steep 5-minute run... Maybe a nice lap on M. Fort on your Fischer RC's ..Ooops. I mean your Head Rebels; on that new Gran Becca in some boot-top new snow on a groomer. Take us to Italy for lunch... at high speeeds.

The worst thing an instructor can teach is a snowplow or stem turn. The moves and non-existing balance are contrary to what the sport is. Balancing on one foot after the other and allowing the skis to make the turns. Once your tech people to use those Training Wheels, they will always fall back on them and will be forcing their skis to turn from then on instead of standing On them and Allowing them to make the turns. You don't ski like that so why teach like that? And no, this is not a step to learning how to parallel turns, it is the destroyer of parallel turns. All you have to do from a traverse is face down the slope and get off your downhill foot and step on your uphill foot. Your uphill ski will instantly roll over and slide and turn down the hill, not go up the hill like you show here. Again, you don't ski like that so why teach like that? You turn into the turn; you don't move outside the turn and then into the turn. You have to be balanced On the ski which you can't do when you push it away from you. By the time it comes back under them your students will be going straight down the hill. 4:43 When you ski for yourself, al you are doing is leaning down the hill and changing your weight from your downhill ski to your uphill ski. By leaning down the hill you are creating a new leg angle that rolls the skis over. There is no reason to introduce the crutch of stepping to the side. And, your leg is not supposed to be fully extended during the turn. If you try to do 5that, you will be forced back onto your heels because you will actually be pushing your ski ahead of your as the turn progresses. It will ALSO force your upper body too far up the hill and over your inside ski which is supposed to be unweighted. 4:24 This is all you need to show and teach people. Just step up on it and lean down the hill. Simple and accurate.
