Even when I watch you find a lump of lead my imagination takes me to the 1600’s, a roaring fire with men coated in ash, working lead and bronze with hammers flailing and sparks a flying. The history of Scotland and the other southern folk is truly amazing.

Greetings John, well it is what it is... you know so well like me, that most of day's we go to the fields we have more chances to dig just "things " then good treasures... The important is stay always ready for another day another's and other's finds. 😊

I found my biggest silver coin ever a place I searched many many times before , but it was so close to a tree stub that i had missed it all the other times i was there 🤗

Could you do a segment about the signals you don’t dig? Like the scratchy dodgy signals you know it’s just rubbish. It would help to know for myself what ones to ignore. Cheers

I've been going on a field every year for the last 30 years & still turn up coins , musket balls.Each time it gets ploughed it brings stuff nearer the surface.

What is amazing to me is the early coins closer to the surface than a Pull Tab. But, Here in the Southeastern US (Georgia) finding a Georgian Coin a Spanish Silver would be an event of note.

I wonder how deep you'd have to go to be beyond the depth of where metal-age artifacts would be found. It would be good to know how deeply to scan when you're on a field, I guess that's part of the art of it. I assume the deeper stuff would be older stuff, but if the farmer is turning 14 inches deep I guess you probably won't be scanning deeper than that. If someone was burying a pot of coins, I'd assume they'd want to bury it a bit deeper than that.

you miss so much if you detect like this,in the 17 years of detecting i would always use poles to grid ref the whole field,this way i never missed anything,unless it was to deep.
