Back to Basics - How to Make a Quick & Easy Junk Journal Pt 1
Hi - sometimes it's easy to forget how beautiful things can be with the simplest of styles. I wanted to go back to basics, without all the fancy pockets and tucks that can sometimes be overwhelming. You can still create something beautiful but without the stress. Please stay safe and well everyone, and have a happy time crafting. x

Is tyvek the same as book mending tape? Thanks for another great video. To the person who wasted their time pressing the thumbs down, I pity you, your life must be void of something. Tina has found her calling here and we appreciate her work, if you don't there's loads of other stuff you could do that would have a more positive impact on yourself and the world. Spreading negativity hurts you more than anyone else.

Megan Brain Tyvek is like the plastic bubble wrap type envelopes you get from say Amazon or Post Office. It’s also used as a moisture barrier in construction. I hope that helps?

Thanks for this video Tina. I’m not a newbie but as an old hand we sometimes forget simple is sweet. We can get carried away by all the supplies available when only a few simple everyday things and a couple of digis make just as nice a journal. I also really appreciate the comments from your subbies, I learn such a lot from them as well. 😁💕

My problem in getting to make a journal at all, is, I don't have access to computer printer pages. So I went out and bought some pretty papers of different sorts all on clearance and I have just started to coffee dye and food color dye as well. Thank you for this simple series. I completely understand! While I LOVE a chunky journal they do tend to get a little crazy! But it's so hard to stop when your working on them! I just started one that I have told myself is going to be more "simple". Hopefully watching your video will help me keep it under control!

Simplicity can be stunning all on its own. Thank you for keeping the videos coming. I am sure we are all watching more than ever these crazy days! I have not used Tyvek but really like double sided carpet tape sold at hardware stores. It is inexpensive, comes in various widths and works really well. Hugs and blessings, 🤗❤️

Thank you for going back to basics! I have mostly been collecting supplies as I'm intimidated by the creating! Asked for a scrap of tyvek at a construction site and they gave me a huge piece, 4 ft x 2 ft!

Lucky you, what a great and daring idea. I’d be too scared to approach them. I dint think they use tyvek here in construction and it’s expensive to buy. Well done👍🏻

Vivienne Parfitt hello.👋🏻 Tasmania is our favourite place, we’re grey nomads and Tassie was the first place we went, we bought a one way ticket and stayed nearly 3 years. Unfortunately we had to come home because of family illness. Missing Tassie and all the friends we made there.💕

Doilies can be made by cutting sometging similar to a round snowflake.

Back to basics... I am thinking that I really need one to write in. I like an easy project and I will be stamping on white tissue paper from napkins. I will make a few more writing spots in different sizes. Much love ❤❤❤

As you know I'm a newbie to Junk Journaling and getting started is very hard for me, but to he honest, collecting things to make a journal is fun also...lol...Thank you Tina.. have a wonderful day and stay healthy... Beautiful journal pages! About the Tyvek, in USA you can find tyvek envelopes. I bought a pkg of Tyvek sheets from Amazon over a year ago. Then I would just cut with paper cutter and glue it down with a polymer based gel medium or an excellent glue. It's much cheaper that way. 😀.

I am just starting to watch and as with Judi Guillett-BitsysBaubles I can make my journals but do not ever decorate them I just don't think I understand how to pull it all together and it seems the more Videos I watch (ephemera making etc) the more confused I am. I love your videos! thank you.

I felt really overwhelmed when first starting because of the huge amount of different styles out there. I think now I would say, just remember that there are no rules with junk journals, make them as you wish, as per your taste and style and they will turn out beautiful x

I'm a total beginner. What's the limestone thing mentioned? :) also can you dye papers just using distress ink? Do I need any sort of mat so I don't stain everything? Also I was looking on your website at your fave supplies but the only link that worked was the small favourites one :)

Judi Gullett-BitsysBaubles I have the same problem. I think we need to suit them to what we create. Use the digitals but if you are trying to create and follow the examples set within the videos it’s hard because you may not have everything they have and it may not inspire your creativity. My best work was when I went to things I had saved that I loved and created my own simple tags. Hope this helps.

Lol, yes it sometimes gets that way doesn’t it? We try to outdo ourselves by adding more and more stuff, or fancy pockets etc, but sometimes simple can be just as nice (something I need to remember too) x

Tina your style suits you. Don’t you dare change. I’m just telling you what I thought. Here is where I thought the lace would be better right hand bottom corner but on the backside peeking down to show below the right front. You put it there then moved it. That’s why I said it because it didn’t detract from the butterfly which you liked and me too. I thought it over shadowed the butterfly in such a small place

Instead of saying “it’s going to be basic” at least 17 times... perhaps a quick show of the finished product either at the very beginning or at the end so we know what we’re working toward. So so many of these (not just this channel) do the project step by step but never show the whole thing- and that is a huge help in the process: knowing what it’s gonna’ (sort of) look like in the end. Love the back-to-basics idea- always always a good thing 👍🏼✂️🎨

Hi Tina - I worked in an art supply store where I learned about all those products and it was great. Just to be sure, about paper weight and “gsm”: photocopy paper is usually 80 grams though some was/is 70. Simple drawing paper for kids is 120 grams. Better drawing paper and card stock is 160 grams, there is 180 grams blocks as well. And heavy drawing paper is 240 grams which is the beginning of cardboard. Is this the same as what you call GSM? Love to craft with you. Jackie

Hi from France, just have to say you have the most beautiful country, we absolutely love France. I tend to use a wet pva type glue on the whole, it’s called Anita’s Tacky glue for sticking papers, then Beecons 3in1 glue for sticking the fabric pieces. I also love using my hot glue gun, as it is so quick and easy. Hope this helps x

I have heard you say you have an HP printer. I do too, but can’t get it to print to the edge. I always have a white lip on all 4 sides. Is there a trick I am missing?

Oh thank you so much. I tend to use a mix of regular copy paper, 160gsm and 200gsm. The copy paper is just 80gsm x

There is a "no name" brand of Tyvek that is much cheaper. Found on Amazon.

When working on white, like envelopes it would be helpful to show work on a dark background. Not trying to be ugly but I couldn’t see what you were doing and I am interested. Please don’t fuss at me I have very low vision but still want to learn new things.

I'd really like to give this a go but I'm really confused. Maybe someone could point me to the "Too stupid for the basics, basics" something that covers stuff like what kind of printer to use inkjet or laser, do you tea/coffee stain the paper before or after? That sort of thing.

Definitely not too stupid for the basics. I use an inkjet printer, and since using the HP Instant Ink program, I find that I can coffee dye after printing. @@shabbydabbydoodah interesting, I also have the instant ink program, but all my previous experience with inkjet was it bled like crazy when wet. Thank you for the response, I'll check out the other series.
