Join us in this thrilling episode of On The Trail as Harry Wagner, in his iconic 1948 CJ Flat Fender Jeep Willys, Jeremy Ricks with his 2014 Wrangler Rubicon, and David Schlossberg piloting his 2021 Ford Bronco Badlands Sasquatch, venture into the rugged Sierra Buttes of Northern California.
In this episode, the challenge is real - no modern technology allowed! Our intrepid off-roaders are relying solely on basic navigation tools, a paper map, and a compass to guide them through the unforgiving terrain. Watch as they tackle steep hill climbs, daring rock crawling, and various other obstacles all while keeping a close eye on their map to ensure they stay on the right trail and avoid getting lost.
This is off-roading at its purest form, where the adventure is only as good as your skills and instincts. Tune in to witness the ultimate test of navigation and driving prowess in the breathtaking wilderness of the Sierra Buttes.

Great cinematography! Though, watching you bounce around in that flat fender has me scheduling a chiropractor appointment from sympathy pains.

Seeing that old Willys just got my adrenalin going. I have a 42 Ford Jeep I been putting off cause of other projects. I need to get that thing on the road.

Jeremy brought a gun to a knife fight. Y'all should have piled in his jeep and driven down the "fun" tuff stuff to the lake. 😉😃. Cool flat fender for sure. But I love Jeremy's setup👍👍

Thank you. As the crux would have been a lot of fun to do, it was something we would take on as a group and think it was the right call to head back. But might need to head back out there one of these days 😎

I enjoyed the views and beauty of the area. When you become more comfortable with the little jeep and your driving skill improves you will walk circles around those big heavy 4X4's. I drove Series LR's for years with wimpy axles, poor gearing, limited power and a ride that made me very aware of where the vehicle was on the trail. Now that I'm older I drive a JL Willy's diesel, it's like a Cadillac on the trail and with the limited slip its like a Goat. I really do miss the old rigs and its fun to watch people learning to drive.

I think that it lost a wheel sensor. When that happens all the lockers/sway bar/4WD seem to go into limp mode.

Great video I really enjoyed it. I Live up here where you were filming and I have not been on on that trail yet. I will have to go donut trail sometime but you were pretty far from snake Lake. Snake Lake is West of Quincy and gold Lake is East of Quincy about 40 or 50 miles apart.

There must be more than one Snake Lake (kind of like how there are so many Silver Lakes and Bear Valleys in California).

The issue nobody ever addresses is how old these trails are. What the vehicles of the day then and that it was all maps and compasses. Open difs were all there was. That Willys was how it was and most likely the vehicle used. I have been over a lot of the trails in northern CA/NV. My primary navigation is map and compass. I carry a GPS as a backup. Also, with a map and compass you can pinpoint your location.

I drove a CJ2A recently and it really is a seat-of-the-pants ride. Felt really weird to be so exposed and not really IN the Jeep. I'm now considering buying one and keeping it relatively stock to wheel.

I LOVE the older cars. Somewhere in the 80s or 90s, cars started losing their souls. No character in new cars. Merely more technology to disconnect you from the experience of driving.

They sharply lost their souls after 2018 I would think. That was the sharp line in the sand that things become more tech than machine. They all wanted to copy Tesla.
