I started following you years ago because of you being so open about breastfeeding and you were the only teacher online who talked about it. It made me feel less alone. Thank you for that! I read a lot of good tips in the comments (special tea, drinking enough water, not trying to lose weight 'til you stop breastfeeding, sitting down, looking at a photo of your baby, taking some me-time like reading or watching a movie). Hope they help ❤

Something to consider when grading writing is that you can’t grade everything. I focused on one skill a week when I grade my student’s papers, be it strong hooks, strong conclusions, run-on sentences, main idea, supporting details, etc. I think you get the idea. Also, I NEVER fix misspelled words because I believe they will never learn to write them correctly. I just circle them and whenever they have extra time, they need to look them up.

Teacher mom of 7 month old twins. I pumped at school at the end of last year and I plan to continue this year. I’m a not enough ear for twins. I have to supplement one formula bottle for each baby. I pumped 3 times at work-morning special, lunch, afternoon special or right after school. The biggest thing is to pump for at least 30 minutes and try to use a wall pump like a spectra or Medela. The hands free travel pumps just aren’t as efficient. I also follow one with the pump in instagram and have joined some pumping groups and breastfeeding groups on Facebook.

I’m a 9th year third grade teacher & mama of two boys too! Just had our second in the end of February so I will also be pumping this school year. What worked for me with our first was pumping in the morning before students, during snack & lunch (my school had to find someone to watch my students during snack) and at the end of the day after students left. This kept my supply pretty solid. I also use the Motif Luna pump. Would highly recommend it! It’s a rechargeable pump so you don’t have to be attached to the wall but is stilll the higher suction, hospital grade stuff. Fully covered under my insurance! I’ve heard that the hands free pumps don’t provide as good output so that could help?Happy to chat about all the things 💞

Hello! Thank you for your videos and for sharing your pumping journey. Honestly, it's so hard but totally worth it. I had twins and managed 6 months before I didn't have enough and had to supplement with formula. Drink lots of water and fennel tea really boosted my production. Good luck, you can do hard things ❤

Best pump I had was the Spectra. I was borderline oversupplying. I pumped at recess and lunch. However, in California we have a law about allowing moms to pump and it can’t be a bathroom. I always pumped in my classroom or in the administration office. Just tell your admin what your pumping schedule is and don’t be afraid to be firm. You can always get a doctor’s note if you need it.

Hey! We go back August 1st, students go back August 6th. When I was pumping I pumped at lunch and during my prep and then I’d pump immediately after dismissal because we had a 30 minute prep during that time. I also drank the mother’s milk tea, and used the milk supplement that makes your sweat smell like maple syrup. I can’t remember the name of it! It was stressful! I made a privacy sign for my classroom door and everyone was really supportive but it was still stressful.

I pumped twice a day during school (once during recess 9:30 and one in the afternoon (2:30). Admin covered my class during this time. I also pumped at about 5:30 a.m., 7:30 p.m., and midnight. Its hard because of the lack of sleep but pumping every five hours worked for my supply. I had this schedule from about October to about April. Then I I dropped a pump session and only pumped once at school. I am currently only pumping three times a day and doing about half formula half breastmilk. It's exhausting but its worth it in the end.

We chatted on Instagram about pumping while teaching but a few more tips after watching your video. Have you tried a wall plug in pump, I think sometimes those can get more out? Also try things that can increase your supply like body armours and other snacks. With my first when I made just enough or a little less I would power pump. Also first thing in the morning you get the most milk so I would try to pump before the baby got up in the morning to have a little extra milk to have enough for the day for daycare. 4oz for a baby eating every 3 hours is typical. Wishing you all the luck✨. We start school here in Iowa on 8/23!

One thing that really helped was pumping after breastfeeding (I learned this with my first who was in the NICU and didn't have the energy to increase my supply). You're essentially telling your body you need to make more milk because the baby is still hungry. At first you won't get as much but it really helps when you do a true pump because your body will be used to producing more.It upped my supply a ton! When I did nurse her I used a Haaka to catch the letdown from the other breast while nursing and saved that milk too. We went 8-3. I pumped on the way to school at 7:00-7:30, 10:00-10:30, 1:00-1:30 and on my way home about 3:30-4 (she was usually napping when I got home so there wasn't a rush to nurse). I was able to successfully teach and pump without having to use formula!

4th grade teacher here from Illinois. This past school year was the first year where my partner teacher and I were able to work together and switch classes. It was amazing and we covered some much more together. We started out with a really low group of students and we seen great gains test score wise from our students this past year. I think anytime that you work as a team the outcome will always be successful.

Not a teacher just a homeschool mom🤣 but I exclusively pumped for two of my kids. Those middle of the night pumps are really important. if I skipped those my oversupply dipped down to almost nothing within a few weeks. I do think it's different with every kid though. Try different flange sizes I think that was one reason why my 3rd had better success.

Hi there, I teach 2nd grade and go back to work on August 5th. I used my beast pump at recess and lunch in my classroom. It was stressful because I always had someone knocking on my door needing something from me, a coworker or student. I bottled the milk and kept it in a mini fridge in my class. You need to get the best breast pump you can find. That will make a difference. Don’t be afraid to let your principal and coworkers know that you need your recess and lunch time to pump so they can give you the time you need. You must stick to a pumping schedule or your supply will dry up. I was able to do it and so can you. You just have to stick to it. Your baby is counting on your milk 🥛 Good luck! You got this!!! 💜

Just breathe, sweet lady! It will be o.k. The more stress you feel, the less you are going to be able to produce. Relaxation is key. Make sure you are drinking enough, especially in the Arizona climate. I go back to work on Aug. 12 and the kids come the following week. I have done a three way split for my entire career. Currently I teach science and social studies. Last year I did social studies on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and science on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It was a struggle but I got it all covered.

My insurance paid for me to rent a hospital-grade pump. I had to go see a lactation specialist first and she completed the request for me. It was so much more effective at pumping and keeping my supply up. When I pumped at school, I was able to do it twice during school hours during my lunch and during planning. To be honest, I ended up losing my supply. My baby wanted to cluster feed all night and I couldn’t get any sleep. I was a mess. We did end up needing g to do formula. Not trying to be discouraging!! I really hope it works out for you. Make your sleep and your nutrition a priority. And see about getting a better pump. Best wishes to you ❤.

Formula should be free!!! I have talked to my friends a lot about this. It sucks to teach and not make a lot of money, but also not qualify for the low income assistance programs. I think if our salaries aren't increased, there needs to be some sort of support for all teachers, families and singles, who need help literally just living day to day. Even if it's just food stamps or something.

I return to school July 22 for a two week jump start program for our at-risk 4th graders. The new school year begins August 12th here in northern Indiana. Back when I was breastfeeding my kiddos I would pump in the nurse’s office during my lunch. If there were students in there then I would use the storage closet in her office. It was not ideal in any way. Back then pumps were noisy and had to be plugged into an outlet and my classroom had a huge window facing the hallway so there was no privacy to do it at my desk. For my last baby I didn’t produce enough milk and had to supplement. Hoping things work out for you.

I will be having my second baby in December and fully plan to pump at school when I come back! I teach 8th grade so I’m worried about how it will all work, timing wise! 😬 Also I had trouble with the wearable pumps! I would always produce more with a plug in the wall pump!

I was a pumping teacher mom last year. I told my principal I am a mom first and I will need someone to let me leave 30 minutes additional to my planning each day. Also kept a mini fridge. The reading specialist would come in and relieve me. Just had to make it work.

Here is my teaching pumping advice: Feed baby before you leave in the morning, pump at lunch/recess and then feed baby right when you get home. You could also pump on the way to and from work if you needed to. I found my baby just naturally started eating less while I was at work and would eat more while I was home.

It helps to be really hydrated and I had a picture of my babies to look at while pumping. That seemed to help me. There are also natural supplements like fennel that help boost your supply.

I know this might not be the advice you want to hear. I am a teacher and I have pumped at work for 2 of my children and made it to a year. I am about to start pumping in the fall for baby 3. I couldn’t do work and pump. I would produce basically nothing. I had to do something relaxing, I would scroll or read a book. But if I worked I would pump next to nothing and I have no clue why that happened.

I'm going into my 16th year teaching. I have a 10 year old and an almost 3 year. I breast fed them both 18 months and went back to work when they were both 4 months old. It is not easy, but it is possible! For my youngest, I would pump at recess and drive home after lunch to feed baby (I had a prep right after lunch to make this possible and I live super close to my school). My school provided me the internal office for about 20 minutes. Both doors were locked and no one would bother me. I would pump about 3-4 ounces at work each day and when I was with him, he would cluster feed. I took two supplements to help with milk production and to prevent clogged ducts (Legendairy Milk Sunflower Lecithin and Legendairy Milk Liquid Gold Lactation Supplement). We did supplement with Bobby Formula if needed. Once I took the pressure off myself with making sure I had enough milk to replace what he ate, it helped a lot! Babies can get more milk from breastfeeding than a pump can. So to boost your milk supply, nursing more will help! Thank you for sharing your journey! I know it is a lot of work vlogging and sharing your life. Best of luck! Congrats on your new baby!

Wouldn't Writing go better with ELA? It's one of the language arts ( thinking, listening, speaking, reading, and writing). Plus, wouldn't Math and Science go together better? When I taught departmentalized classes, i was the ELA & Social Studies teacher. My partner taughr Math and Science. I would teach a skill in Reading. Then we would use that skill in Social Studies, since it's informational text. For example i might teach text features or main idea and details in Reading one week. The next week, we would use those skill in a Social Studies lesson. My Math partner(s) used Science to help students apply what they learned in Math, like measurement, data & graphing, etc. Just an opinion.
