It has been hundreds of years since people lived out here.
Exploring and reading the landscape history as we journey through this old New Hampshire forest I am looking for the signs of where people left signs of activity upon the land. The thongs we look for are rock walls, stone walls, cart paths, wagon trails, cellar holes, stacked rocks, rock piles and any ground that had been improved and shifted. I brought my Fisher F19 meta detector of course so we can scan the ground for nail iron or any relics that may pop up. I found a couple of interesting places with rock walls and piles of field stones and of course Oxen shoes found in the ground. Finding old places in a place like the Abyss of this forest is not easy. Being the old farms and home sites have been deserted a couple hundred years and then logged twice the landscape has changed. I also see use the signs of where loggers came in and out in modern times as well as the early 1900s to find the path of least resistance . This will be the part to Series of back to the abyss.

This is how a lot of my solo hunts go, lots of effort but little payoff. All part of the game we play. Thanks for sharing Charlie and good luck next time!

It's like an event took place. You said there are other sites in that area of things started and not finished. It's like they left and didn't come back. Depending on the time when folks were in that area, could we be looking at where men marched off to war and didn't return? Revolutionary War, War of 1812, the Civil War? It could have been too much snow in the winter to make it worthwhile carving out a life in the hills. They're just some ideas that come to mind.

I don’t know Charlie I think you should bring a fishing pole with you. Also, a little snack pan fries should be pretty good in the middle of day or bring some home for supper. 🤷‍♂️🎣😊👍 Al from Vt

Charlie is the modern day John Muir, except Mr Muir didn't have the benefit of our modern day technology... Wasn't a Go-Pro anywhere on the planet...😂 Judging by the size of the rocks in those walls, our ancestors put some serious labor into the development of the wilderness into fields for raising livestock and wheat,Oats, barley and who knows what.... God Bless America 🌹🇺🇸...

Hey Charlie, thanks for your awesome videos! What kind of video equipment do you use and also what kind of video editing software do you use? Your video quality is top notch and unfortunately other You-Tubers do not actually show the handling of their equipment. I learn a lot by watching your videos!!!

I built a log cabin in the woods of central mn when I was 10. With only an ax. I understand the work it was but could not imagine doing it in colonial footwear. Can you describe what it must have been like for the early settlers?
