Join me as I take the Thunder Mesa layout back to its nearly original 3x6' footprint in this FINAL phase of demolition for the reimagined layout. Thunder Mesa town is carefully removed and all of the structures stored away, then it's time to begin the first phase of actual construction with the addition of new benchwork for a dramatic canyon section! Things are really moving forward in this Thunder Mesa 2025 update!
Thanks for watching, amigos!

Hi Dave, I found your channel about a month ago and I've watched all the videos on your channel. I wanted to tell you as a carpenter that there is no problem with your woodwork and you shouldn't put yourself down about it because what you do is perfect for your needs. There is no need to spend more money or make things any more complicated than they need to be. I salute you sir.

Keep using drywall screws. They're the most economical choice, and the course thread works the best for wood to wood and foam connection. Looking forward to the build.

Dave, I'm fairly sure you've seen my "Twin Peaks" layout. When I started building it, I considered that someday it might have to be moved. Other than some scenery, it's in sections that are Bolted together.

I suggest referring to the downward risers as Sinkers. Seems reasonable.

Dave, you use whatever woodscrews you like! I use drywall screws and it's great to simply unscrew a component when I need to. I have the relics of something I glued together. Breaking it up was basically terminal to the structure. I'm absolutely enjoying your mode of railway construction and the product is fantastic. Good 'ealth, John Warner, Australia

My entire 24 x 34 O3r layout is sheet rock screws. Work just fine and they were free. Dad had boxes of them in his shop when he passed. Thanks

There is nothing wrong with using drywall screws on the layout, I'm using them on mine. I do pre-drill and countersink as I'm using plywood for my benchwork and I like a nice flush fitting screw

Too bad you can't get some pictures of the buildings on rollers. 😉 When I was a young model railroaded and really cheap by need. I used a string of white Christmas lights to light my buildings. When you get the Boot Hill gate and fence rebuilt, I bet that raven will come home. 😉

Boy Dave, just gotta say again, I think you would be amazed at what an oscillating saw would do for controlled demolition. I think many of those scenes could be gently removed in their entirety. It acts almost like a cast saw, not a jigsaw or circular saw.

I'm in the same phase right now! I have a double deck layout and the upper level has to disappear. I hope to upgrade the lower level. So breaking up is looking forward to the future ! That makes it fun. However, due to old age....I hope......

Hi Dave. I'd suggest using an impact driver instead of an electric drill for driving in any kind of screw. They are smaller and lighter than the drill, use the same battery's, and require less physical effort. I only use drywall screws for my projects. Since we both live in AZ where it is so dry, the screws never rust.

I see no problem with drywall screws. My whole bed frame is held together with drywall screws. In the end, a screw is a screw. Except maybe machine screws, which are just this side of being bolts anyway.

I’ll definitely be following this as I’m hoping it gives me the motivation & kick in the butt needed to actually START my Disney diorama with various gauge Disney Trains. I like how you’ve put thought into the construction making it easy for deconstruction too. I doubt I’ll achieve such forethought as a complete novice so here’s hoping these videos give me ideas. Will these be going into any particular “playlist” so that I can follow the new construction process easily?

I can't wait to see the reconstruction. Don't give into the hatters, my whole layout a 15 x 17 around the room is built with drywall screws and its solid, it won't come apart unless I take it apart.
