You said the right thing about the final sequence. I was expecting the obvious finale but Somehow I was not sure HOW THE F THEY WILL BE DOING THAT, and right at the moment BOOOM, "magic" happens right in front of your eyes..... I literally cried, as a young kid watching this trilogy and the fact that the sequence WAS ACTUALLY HAPPEN, blowed my mind away. FANTASTIC!

One of my favourite films and have been twice to see the musical. Absolutely stunning musical with amazing performances and special effects.

I fell head over heels in love with this show ever since I saw it. Being in London for three months, I definitely plan on going back, because to be honest, I've never had just THIS MUCH fun during a musical! It's so incredibly energetic. A truly wonderful and mind-blowing production!

I saw it tonight and OMG!!!! It was fantastic! When it started, I got so emotional and cried. Months of waiting and worrying about it being cancelled (I never got to see Prince of Egypt! 😭) it was all over in less than a second. And the final climax, with the clocktower, my heart was pounding!! For some weird reason, I didn't think they'd make it. (Ignoring the voice in my head, "You've been watching the film for 20 years!!!") 🤣 I was so emotional and excited by the end of it all, I felt sick. I came out shaking. I very nearly fainted. OMG, I am desperate to see it again! I loved it!

Hugh sounded and acted JUST like the original George from the movie it was so uncanny !! and Something about that boy was definitley my favorite song from the show. Seeing this orchestra on Broadway has been my favorite theater experience yet!!!

This is quite literally one of the most repeated cast recordings I've listened to in a while, so I personally disagree that the songs are forgettable. I've had Something About That Boy in my head for weeks. Otherwise a nice recap analysis.

Was in London June 2022 and was lucky enough to grab seats in the front of the Dress Circle and saw this musical before the cast change. !!! WOW !!! We were literally blown through the walls of the Adelphi Theatre! What an incredible musical theatre experience. Utterly magical from start to finish. So well done. Loved it!

I saw it earlier this month. An absolutely incredible experience. I've commented elsewhere that just when you think you've seen all the amazing moments, another amazing moment comes along that tops the previous one... and then some! I came out with such a huge grin on my face (that noone could see 'cos of my mask 😷😄) Go see it!

We saw the show last night and wow! What a blast. We were supposed to be seeing Elton John but he cancelled so we had 2 days in London. So we booked Prince of Egypt and BTTF, they have to be the 2 most technical shows out there and both fantastic. But, for all it's technical wizardry, my best scene was Marty and George's Put Your Mind To It. Pure Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, brilliantly staged and danced. I would go back.....return just for that scene alone! Love your review, spot on. 👍👌

Going to see it for the fourth time in July! We were lucky to see it in Manchester too, what a show! Best show ever! Well after Les Mis!

We saw the evening show 25th Sept. Fantastic from arriving in the theatre until the spectacular end. The cast were outstanding. On our showing, an understudy replaced Olly Dobson. I believe it was Will Haswell but it wasn’t announced anywhere. He did a great job, fantastic vocals, but felt nervous in the first half. Much more settled in the 2nd half. We were thankful as only a few days earlier the show had been shut down due to Covid for a number of days. Everyone will talk about the car and how they managed to make it feel like 88 miles an hour as well as the clever technique to keep cutting between Marty driving and the doc climbing to to top of clock tower to fix the wire. But just the continual changes between the scenes, the fluid movement on the stage and the simple yet effective spinning around of the set to go fro the foreground d to the background was terrific design. 5 stars.

I do enjoy the movie, and it sounds like if you like the movie and want to see it superimposed on stage, it will be a good time. Your description of it as more of "an experience" akin to an immersive theme park ride I think is a good grounding in expectations. Unfortunately, when it eventually comes to the U.S.A, theatre tickets are just so expensive for Broadway, that I don't think I'll be able to justify the cost to go see it. :-(

Huge BTTF fan and watched it today, couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Retro, funny and fully immersive.

I just saw the show last week and I was beaming through the whole experience ❤ I will say that back to the future has always been my favourite movie (series) of all time so I was in eager to go and it took me everything I had not to cry at what I saw. I loved it so so much, from all details, effects, casting, songs. I keep on listening to the soundtrack as some of those pieces are especially beautiful to hold up the memory. ❤ I’d totally recommend this show to anyone that wants to see a spectacular musical. I can’t wait to go again.

I got to see this show last Saturday evening and it was AMAZING. We got to see Ryan as Marty in his debut day as well! Amazing vocals. Fell in love with this show (especially the DeLorean) and can't wait til I inevitably end up going again 🤣 #MickeyJoTheatre

I’ve only heard the soundtrack and haven’t seen the show yet, though my husband and I are seeing it next week, and we LOVE all of the music!

I saw it last night and I already had high expectations cause my friend who is a super fan of the film hyped it up so much beforehand… And it was incredible! It was so good!!!! I didn’t like the first song (the vocals were really buried in the mix and I didn’t much like what I could hear) and I got really worried. And then suddenly everything switched and it was all so breathtaking and fantastic! It was so much fun and so funny too from start to finish. Only disappointment was the lack of cast recording, cause my friends and I wanted to listen to everything afterwards!

I saw BTTF in Manchester, then in London, and recently on broadway, it's a wonderful piece of theatre, and easy to come back to. A bit of a flex of mine is I saw the final Manchester dress rehearsal before it started previews, so I was one of the first people not involved with the production to see the show. It changed quite a bit from the first preview to London, e.g. Biff had a song in the diner during act 1 that was cut, the opening number was changed completely, the finale scene with the clock tower was shortened significantly, so I feel really lucky to have seen its evolution from first preview to the final product.

I saw this show in London it was unbelievable 😊 I thought the start 30mins were a bit to rock star . After the interval it really got into the movie feel an amazing show would love to watch it again. I won’t spoil it for you but the last bit with the dalorium was amazing

Hi MickeyJo! I just had to put a comment here saying thank you so much for posting this video. I have been an obsessive fan of both Back to the Future and of musicals pretty much my entire life (autism hello lol) and I have been putting off going to see the BTTF musical for months and months because I was so nervous about whether I was going to like it or not. The movie holds so much meaning for me, and considering how movie-to-musical adaptations have been both huge successes and devastating failures, I was just so worried. I didn't read any reviews, I didn't listen to the cast recording when it came out, I didn't want to really know anything about it one way or another. After watching a bunch of your other videos, I finally decided to watch this one, and I am so glad I did. I have always loved how your reviews more often than not focus on the positives and on every aspect of the shows, from cast to music to effects and everything else, and how they are so thoughtful and detailed without being full of spoilers. After watching this video I finally plucked up the courage to book a ticket to see the BTTF musical on April 25.... since then I've seen it a second time and have booked again to see it a third time in two weeks time! It's a great day to be an autistic BTTF and musicals fan! Thank you MickeyJo for giving me that push I needed!

Really enjoying your reviews! Saw this last night and had a blast. The stars of this show are the staging and lighting. It was also refreshing to see some really great acting, which I find is usually lacking in today's musicals. The music was underwhelming. We felt the opening numbers were unclear and the first act drags a bit. But the show really takes off in the second act, and you're left by the end of the show in high spirits and energy.

i saw this in Manchester in previews (which was amazing) and had tickets for the friday of WEL but it was cancelled due to illness. I really hope to be able to see it again really soon. xxx

Completely agree with the comment about the score. It really is a wild ride of a show but it didn’t need to be a musical.

This is interesting, as it is the first time I disagree with your review. I agree the staging and the spectacle were *brilliant*... and the acting and singing was great... but how can you give a theatre musical 5-stars when you admit that the music written for it is all pretty forgettable? I agree the use of the BTTF theme is iconic and that I got the shivers when they played it in the DeLorean sequences, but the rest of the songs were downright poor (in my opinion). Anyway, each to their own! Even so I was left smiling at the end due to well, you know. It's just not 5-stars, for me at least.

I agree that for me the songs were a bit of a disappointment as someone who likes to regularly listen to cast recordings while driving and such lol, not a lot of these were ones I'd likely add to the list. But as a stage show of the movie (which I love) it was fantastic and I had a great time. The effects were really cool and the way they incorporated technology/the screen into the stage was awesome. If I get another chance to see it I won't be all the way in the top section lol.

I really liked many songs. “It’s Only A Matter Of Time” was an epic lyrical version of the main Back To The Future theme, “Something About That Boy” reminded me of Tonight-Quintet, and while nowhere near as good as that song, it was still great at setting up the third act, and “Put Your Mind To It” was very energetic and fun. However, a few songs weren’t the best. “My Myopia” gives I Should Tell You a run for it’s money as the slowest theater song, “Cake” was completely pointless, and “Pretty Baby” made an already uncomfortable moment in the original movie 10x more uncomfortable. Overall, the show was pretty good. I love the movie, and while I feel the soundtrack is very hit/miss, the hits are there and very noticeable. 7/10

Saw this last night. I really enjoyed it. The staging is a wow. The songs are not bad, a couple are great but there are just too many of them. All in all a great night out. I had high expectations as saw the film at the cinema in 1985 😳

Late to the party, but I watched the show last weekend; and while I had fun, I wasn't completely won over. The effects were clearly fantastic, no argument there. The cast was obviously talented, but most them (with the exception of Corey English as Doc Brown) were stuck with having to imitate their movie counterparts down to the smallest mannerisms. They were very good at that, but, from a theatre aspect I found it unsatisfying. The songs were okay, but that's it. Can't say anything bad about them, and the cast performed them well, but they just weren't very memorable to me. The special effects were clearly the main attraction, and everything else seems to have been built around them. Basically, it is a very well-crafted entertainment experience based on the movie, with a talented cast and some absolutely stunning effects, but the emotional journey of the audience doesn't go much beyond "Ooh, I recognise this moment from the movie." It that's what you're in the mood for, then you're probably going to have a good time. (One good thing about the ticket prices at the Adelphi: They have some very affordable seats, which still have great views. So if you figured out how much you personally would be willing to spend for this kind of show, chances are you'll find a suitable ticket category within the range.) I think this show could do really well in Vegas, actually: It doesn't want or pretend to be anything other than a fun spectacle, and from what I can gather, that's pretty much exactly the kind of experience people are going to Vegas for.
