You could actually feel a LOT of heat during this exhibition ride. It reminded me of the West Edmonton Mall Dragon in regards to the amount of heat that the show would actually let the viewers experience. It was an awesome showcase into how "REAL" movie effects could make for an awesome movie in comparison to today's CGI.

It was probably really expensive to run this attraction, but it’d be amazing if they brought this back and I’m sure it would still hold up with all the other attractions and shows.

Thank you for posting this! I opened Backdraft as a USH Tour Guide. It ran continuously and I personally did up to 10 shows a day there. At that time there was no fire shield around the Ops panel in the main room and it got HOT over there! It took a long time to get the sensors adjusted properly in the early days of testing and soft openings so we were constantly getting faults and having to do a full building evacuation several times a day. Ultimately it was a huge favorite with the guests. SO many great memories to look back on!

This attraction is what inspired me to become a firefighter when I was 5 back in 2002. Just noticed it closed after my birthday (4/10). Thanks for sharing :')

This show scared the hell out of me, I specifically remember leaving the building with my dad before anybody else left... the one at California was extremely realistic, it looked like the pit of hell opened up in front of the audience (then again it could be the exaggeration of my children experience)

It's a shame that Universal Studios has gotten rid of nearly all their "special effects stage" attractions: Backdraft, Ghostbusters, Twister, that one in Singapore with the hurricane in NYC, Terminator, Alfred Hitchcock.... I really miss the old "go behind the scenes" feel of these parks, that really tried to hammer in the illusion that you were on a live set or in a production building in Hollywood, and the "Fake" part turns all too real. If I had a time machine, I'd go back to visit these parks as they were back in the early 1990s.

This...going to Universal Studio wasn't about rollercoaster and 3D rides, it was about getting to see how movies are filmed and how special effects works.

For real bro to many of their attractions are just you in front of a screen with some shaking now

Did this during my first trip to Universal Hollywood. When I went back for my second trip I was wearing a Backdraft T-shirt that even I mistook for a real Chicago Fire Department duty T-shirt only to discover it was gone.

Glad you guys have such a nice archive of this attraction. I archived it as well when the show was finally set to close, but I'm so happy other people have the same idea. You should upload a full show of the Special Effects Stages next if you have it. Or even Cinemagic, which would be incredibly awesome.

I wish I could have enjoyed this as a kid. I remember being 8 yrs old and walking into this attraction not having a clue but my parents guiding me and it started. I remember this ride like it was yesterday. I remember it was fkn hot and I didn't like it. For the first time, I was scared and my mom tried to calm me I remember my dad just talking it down, it's ok son this isn't real lol😅. Like ok it feels very feel and I was this far so just suck it up. Next time I was a lil older and my older cousins wanted to go in but unfortunately I bitched out and I was a target for rest of my life. I wish this was still around so that I could face it as a grown man but now this is all just memories. Like the old King Kong. Now 36 and I'm reminiscing to my 10 yr about how I bitched out at her age.
