Don’t use the cones that comes with it but some hem brand from Walmart or online

it's called smoke residue. same the tar in a smokers lungs, build-up in a chimney from a woodstove, etc. basically unburned particles that gather on their surroundings. and with cheaper cones, that residue really REEKS!!

Walmart kinds are terrible. I have noticed some Walmarts recently started carrying Gonesh though, those aren't bad. They're not top of the line by any means but they're decent. For the best incense IMO - American: Wildberry Japanese: Shoyeido Indian: Satya

The one on the right is the one that I drilled a hole into. That's why it has smoke coming out of the bottom. That's the backflow effect.

What would you recommend? Never burned incense cones before, but interested by them.

Hammy Havoc I don't know what you can buy where you live, but here we have mainly 4 brands imported: HEM, Satya, Ramakrishna and Aromatika. New HEM cones are better than old ones, coupla of months ago i bought few packs thanks to a friend of mine who said they are better now. Still i think they are... decent at best. So there is my personal list based on what i've burned so far: 1) HEM - usually strong (sometimes "chemical") smell but you can clearly tell it's artificially "flavored" saw dust. Earlier ones were all the same color with diffirent smell, now they differ in texture and color, that makes me think that they actually use natural ingridients. Some of them like "Rose" will make your home smell like a burnt down chemical plant for some time (until you get rid of smoke, so don't forget to ventilate your room) but after that you get pleasent aroma for up to a few days. Usually HEM are the cheapest option you may get. 2) Satya - more expensive, MUCH richier aroma. For regular use this is the best bang for the buck - they are quite cheap $1.3-$2 per 15g pack of sticks or 12 cones pack. Rich, usualy sweet aroma, they have a lot of different types, cone selection is limited, but they have plenty of sticks. I should say, same stick and cone (Nag Champa or Superhit for example) will give a bit different aroma because stick has a bamboo base which gives a bit of smokey smell while cones give sweeter aroma. Satya is my personal choice for great selection, good price and nice sweet aroma most people will probably like. 3) Ramakrishna - never seen their cones, but they do THE best incense sticks so far. Deep and rich aroma which sticks to everything and will last over a day, and when you smell it you (well if you do have sense of smell) will immideatly tell what it has waaaaaaaaaaaaay more ingridients than HEM or Aromatika, and has deeper, stronger aroma than Satya. Ingridients are plenty, all the sticks have complex aroma. But it all comes with a price. "hand made" pack of 10 sticks costs around $5, comes in plastic pack. And sometimes you may find cheaper option with slightly "cheaper" aroma (still deeper and better than Satya), comes in paper wrap, costs around $5 for ~25 sticks, and those are my personal choice. 4) Aromatika - if you love to live in a burnt down wooden house it's a choice for you. None of the cones i tried never gave rich aroma except that strong smell of burnt saw dust. Priced similar to Satya, but smell is inferior, 0/10 would not recommend. A great gift for somebody you hate. And one more tip: Always check your prices, i see plenty of $10 price tags per Satya pack which is usually under $1.5 a pack here, don't get fooled, those should be really cheap.

@@HammyHavoc And if you burned incense sticks on bamboo base - cones smell almost the same, minus that smokey part of burnt bamboo.

Both give strong scent just one you can light on a heating the other get one of those ornaments that have a hole so the smoke ornaments
