To conclude: 3-away is free take, 4-away is free drop. Analogically for higher away; odd-away is free take, even-away is free drop.

Oooohhhh, so that makes the Crawford rule make more sense. The doubling strategy still gives me trouble.

Playing with the cube is one of the hardest aspects of the game. I'm still learning how to use it, learning new approaches everytime.

Hi, Marc. I'm new to backgammon and I've thoroughly enjoyed sifting through your backlog as of late. I'd love to see a video covering all things related to keeping time, using clocks, features to look for while purchasing a backgammon clock, specific models you would recommend, etc. I haven't found a whole lot of information on the subject. Thanks for this video Marc. Would you ever consider doing a video explaining the various nuances of Chouettes? I’ve never had a chance to actually play one, and there are very few example videos online. The basic play seems pretty straightforward, but other rules such as “mandatory extras, offers” and scoring in general seem like they can get kind of complex. Thanks! Paul

Thanks for the video Marc you explained it really well but you didn't mention what opening rolls by the opponent justify the free drop and when it is better to take and keep our free drop for later 3 1 is kinda obvious but what about other rolls is there any kind of rule?

Any of the good rolls would apply like 4-2, 5.-3, 6-1 and 3-1 and of course the doubles. The specific rolls don't matter is the concept of who has the stronger opening rolls to get a slight lead early on in the past crawford game.

Perhaps you can provide me with your views on the automatic double. The match score is something that I'm going to auto double. But why would i just double when my opponent expects it? (No advantage for me) What if i hold the double cube? My opponent maybe distracted as to why i did not double (advantage for me). Then perhaps my opponent underestimats me (advantage for me). Now if i wait for a time in the game where my opponent has to think, now double and i may be able to influence a Blunder! I hope you reply cause i want to learn. Thanks
