My last leg of my spring trip 2023 took me to Vojvodina in northern Serbia, to Batschka, where my mother was born. There we researched the traces of the childhood of my mother and her brothers and were ultimately able to follow the years between 1944 and 1953 before they left for Germany.
My special thanks go to the current residents of Backi Gracac and Gakovo, who not only supported me with extraordinary commitment in searching for clues, but also let our group into the houses and, above all, for making me feel at home again, exactly 70 years after my grandmother and her children left the village!
