Join me on an exciting backpacking adventure as I test out the Nortent Vern 1 tent in the stunning landscape above the West Highland Way in the Glen Coe Mountains.
Departing from work in a hurry, I eagerly pack my bags and hit the road, eager to try out this new piece of gear.
Having relied on the MSR Hubba Hubba NX2 for my backpacking needs, I was on the hunt for a tent that could withstand all seasons. After thorough research, I opted for Nortents Vern 1, which promised to meet all my requirements without breaking the bank.
Parking at the base of the Devils Staircase, I embark on a climb to the top, seeking evening views over Bauchaille Etive Mòr and Rannoch Moor. As the sky transitions from pink to black, the serenity of the evening envelops me, and I settle in for the night.
With the anticipation of a spectacular sunrise, I set my alarm for the early hours, and the dawn does not disappoint. The Vern 1 proves to be a fantastic shelter, and the breathtaking views only enhance the experience.
Join me as I recount this unforgettable Friday night adventure, filled with stunning vistas and the joy of testing out new gear in the great outdoors. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts in the comments below!

Couldn't agree more about the Vern being compared to the Soulo incorrectly. I said pretty much the same on my last vid. I think the Vern 1 is a fantastic tent. I've been out in mine around 35 mph winds and had no issues. Fantastic vid with amazing scenery. New Sub Here, ATB Paul 👍

Thanks Paul. I'm not in the market for a £1000 tent or an argument with my wife. 😂 The Vern 1, whilst not a Hilleberg Soulo, is a fabulous tent that will give me some confidence when heading out into the mountains. Thanks for the subscription and for watching. G♥️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Just picked up this tent whilst being aware of this small flaw in extreme conditions. Already tested set-up in my garden before watching this video. Your solution is far more elegant. I had separate lines behind the pole instead of simply looping the original one. Spent one night in it, and one night not in it, and there was heavy condensation both mornings. But open up both outer doors and it's all cooked off with 30 minutes of sun. Going to Scotland with this in June for its first proper outing. Feeling confident in it. And now I realise I need a drone.

Regarding the video about the Vern 1 in which the pole collapsed: the door he opened wasn't pitched into the wind.
@redmanwalking74
@redmanwalking74 2 ай бұрын
I've just watched the lads video again. I'm in total agreement with him for bailing and his reasoning and my comments weren't to have a go. It's hard to tell initially if the head/foot of the tent is pitched into the wind to begin with but by the time he opened the door to leave, its certainly blowing from the side where the doors are, no doubt causing the demise of his new tent sadly. I've watched videos of other more expensive tents failing too, in strong windy conditions like this. I'm not blaming the guy who made the film. More the people who got so hyped that this may be a contender for the much more expensive Hilleberg Soulo Red Lable. A comparison I wouldn't personally make. It almost got folk rushing out into frankly dangerous conditions to test this claim out. I'm not trying to encourage, advertise or promote the Nortent Vern 1. Folk need to decide for themselves. I happen to like it. I'll use it responsibly myself in conditions I and it will cope with. I've bailed before due to storm conditions. As I've said in many of my vlogs, try not to make mountain rescue part of your trip. I feel really sorry for that lad who no doudt had a horrendous experience with a tent, like me, he probably didn't get for free. G❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@@redmanwalking74 I have a Nortent, so I'm not here to bash anyone. But the guy who made that video knows what he's doing. If you watch a few of his other videos you'll see how meticulous he is wrt his gear. He's camped in way worse conditions that when the Vern 1 failed on him. I specifically asked him which way the wind was coming from and he said it was from the end (the left end if you're looking at the tent on the doors side). I rewatched the video a number of times to understand what happened. Earlier on, before it was dark you could see the left door panel was bow-ing in considerably, and this was definitely when the wind was coming from the left end. The bowing-in seemed to be caused by the storm-flap catching the wind which was then creating an eddie which was forcing in the door. Also, he decided to bale because the left end of tent was coming in on top of him, as it could only do if the wind was coming from the left end. If the wind was coming from the front, the end wouldn't have been coming in. Why did the pole snap within a few seconds of him opening the door? I don't know for certain, but it wasn't because the front of the tent was facing into the wind. The only reason I made the comment on your video was because I've seen a number of different people saying a number of incorrect things about the guy and what (they claim) he did or didn't do. If you look through his channel you can see from the content that he doesn't make his videos for clicks, and indeed he explained under one of his videos that he makes them for himself and his friends. BTW, I don't know him IRL anymore than I know you, but he seems like a solid outdoorsman and I just don't like to see someone like that criticised wrongfully. I'm also not intending to have a go at you. I was just adding my 2 cents on the situation. I also enjoyed your video btw. 👍

@@redmanwalking74 those are the ones I have also enquired about them, to be honest I cant see any problem with he tent and then people have mentioned about them collapsing at either ends of the tent where the poles cross and then someone was showing people how to strengthen it but I have seen the tent being used in windy conditions, snow etc and there was no issues with it collapsing, also as I like a camp fire and does astro photography I wont be out in really high winds unless I get caught out.

It's one of the best experiences I've had wild camping. Everything about it was perfect. I'll be honest, I only see myself using this tent for overnight camps in the mountains. Bit too heavy for me and it is a wonder they had any to sell to punters after giving so many away for review.😂 I think nortent went a tad overboard on the marketing and it might have soured some to the tent with all thr hype.
