We set out to backpack Wind Cave National Park, Custer State Park, Black Elk Wilderness, and the Black Hills National Forest. The 61 mile journey on the Centennial Trail takes us through Norbeck, Highland Creek, French Creek Horse Camp, Legion Lake Lodge, Iron Creek, Big Pine, Samelius Peak, Calmulet, Spring Creek, Sheridan Lake, Brush Creek, and Rapid Creek. We also hiked to Mount Rushmore. We enjoyed great weather and encountered thunderstorms. We viewed bison, prairie dogs, whitetail deer, mule deer, prong horn, and many other critters along the way. The trail provided a diversity of landscapes including mountains, forests, prairies, rivers, creeks and many rock formations.
I highly recommend being shuttled by Jon at Roam'n Around. They have a great store as well. www.roamnaround.com

Thanks for videos. I'm doing the trail this summer and it was a relief to see how easy it is with a hammock.

I love your videos. You showed off the Black Hills really well. I have lived here over 40 years and love it. I am Kevin , my wife and I spoke to you on your way up Samelias Peak. I loved your reaction when I looked at you and said I know. You, you smiled and said you do? I have watched most of your videos. They are very informative and also good humor. I just returned from I hike In the Big Horn Mountains of Wyo. Beautiful Wilderness. 4 night never saw a soul. Just Elk,moose, deer and eagles. And by the way thanks for the sticker i remember asking you for it and you had one. You were friendly to speak with in person, i enjoyed our conversation. Keep on Hiking!!

Love The Centennial Trail🌲I just sectioned hiked a bunch of that same area in May…I’ll take an invite next time and I’ll hike with Rob!! I think Chuck got a bit too close to that beast…it always makes me nervous hiking alone out there in the big open spaces with them…glad you got to see the faces this time Jeremy!! Beautiful time lapse with the clouds!

I am big in Europe! Nobody believes me! Those miles are hard out there but so worth it. Loved your perspective on this trail buddy! Also, that was actually my scat (easy to mistake for a horse).

If you do it, do it early summer. It dries out and water can be a little harder to find late summer.

Awesome trail! Easy to understand why it’s your favorite. You may have picked up some chiggers in the high grass on day one. You know what they used to do to lame horses back in the day! 🤣🤣

I did this hike last month! This video made me nostalgic. I already miss it I only had to make one bison detour, but it routed me through a mountain lion’s feasting den. I lived! Yay!

I was charged by a cow while hiking across a pasture, while wearing a red backpack! He stopped about 20 yards short of me, but my heart was pounding! Rob brought this terror back to me, with his red backpack comment. Nice trail, great adventure.

I was just out there three weeks ago myself and endured a lot of the same cool rainy weather. Camped just down the road from Big Pine trailhead. Unfortunately no real hiking (family reunion), just a quick trip up to the top of Black Elk Peak (Harney Peak for the old timers and locals). I'm hoping to complete the whole Centennial Trail next summer. It will be my first attempt at a thru hike and excited to see if it opens doors to others. Great video! Thanks for showcasing the beauty of my home state.

Just crawled out of the Black Hills myself. Excellent video my friend! You definitely missed a killer campsite about .2 south on the Centennial from the Rushmore spur. Rob hitching back to camp gave Trips and I a laugh 😂. The group I was with is definitely more his speed. Less miles & more camp time! Hopefully both Rob & Mule are healing up. Miss you boys!! I’m guessing Toots couldn’t make this one as well. We gotta get the Midwest Crew back together for a jaunt into the backcountry somewhere.
