Proudly joined by fellow youtuber ‪@HikerDudeDad‬ for 3 days 2 nights of backpacking on the Old Loggers Path in the Loyalsock State Forest of Pennsylvania. The OLP is one of the more popular backpacking loops and for good reason. Excellent camping, water sources, vistas, bountiful wildlife, and historical features are all present on this loop through the famous PA Wilds. The trail follows many of the old original paths and grades loggers used in the early 1900's as it makes its way through today's second growth hardwoods. We did this hike going counter clockwise starting from the main trail head in the ghost town of Masten, and I have provided mileage for all of the major landmarks along the way. Filmed in 5.3K at 24fps , I am proud to present the story of our journey into the wilds, where we encountered rattlesnakes, a bear, a wild turkey, heard coyotes, crossed streams, drank from the rivers, looked down from the mountain tops and challenged ourselves to go to our limits. I am proud to present the story of our journey Backpacking the PA Wilds on the Old Loggers Path, and I hope you enjoy the film. #natureadventurediscovery #scenicpennsylvania
I believe I may have seen Bigfoot in the video! If you are the first to spot him and leave the time stamp I will give you a shout out in a future video!!!

Walter, you have outdone yourself on this one, and i couldnt be happier to have been a part of it! The intro was amazing. The narration, the old photos, the music.... You pull people right into your films like no other creator out there! I thought the edit was perfect. You were running out of space on your SD card, so i know there was a lot of great stuff that got cut, but the pacing was spot on, and you wove a perfect story of our trip. Absolutely unbelievable, my friend. I'm only left with one vital question... When is our next trip?!? 👍🥾🤝

Wonderful comment Ryan thank you so much, and again what a pleasure it was to experience this trail with your companionship. I know it went a bit long, I tried my best to keep the story moving, but there was just so much to film. When is the next trip? Well I have already begun doing some research!

Wow, now that was a hike! It looked like you and hiker dude dad had a good time. I know I’d be exhausted. It must’ve been great seeing all that different wildlife- bears, turkeys, and soooo many rattlesnakes. I’ve never heard of that many rattlers in one area in PA. That had to be a little uneasy standing near so many of them. And I definitely like the idea from the other persons comment about the contest and your walking stick. Thanks for sharing and all that you do for the hiking and wildlife community. 👍

I think the historical perspective of how we have gotten to the place where we are today in regards to the Eastern forests, is really a remarkable story and just speaks both to the shortsightedness of man and the resiliency of nature.

Looked like an awesome experience! We follow Hiker Dude Dad's videos too. That giant saw was neat looking and I thought it was cool how the trail started in the ghost town. It was amazing all the wildlife you saw like the rattlesnakes and the wild turkey. I also really liked how you broke up the video showing the different areas and the mileage. Another favorite scene was the campfire and then all the stars you saw!

What can I say “epic” as always, but this one had a little extra. I didn’t think you could get any better, and then you did it. I love the story telling on the hikes. I have done it in mine before and in my upcoming videos of the D&L trails, I continue the same. I love followed history whether it’s a rail trail, canal trail or a logging trail like yours. Epic work Walter. I can feel the love for nature thru your videos and you inspire me to do the same. 🤗

That was a challenging adventure!! You sure saw alot of wildlife! (The thought of all those trees and the animals that lived there destroyed gives me a sickened feeling.) Thankfully there's a renewing the earth does because it's bigger than we are, and Pennsylvania is extra big and good at being beautiful! Thank you for documenting this place and the history. Also for leaving us with today's version of the forest - absolutely gorgeous and filled with life! You heard a whip-poor-will!! Wowsers!! I have to see HikerDudeDad's version. Peace & Prayers.

Humans... we truly run the spectrum of the very best to the very worst. Its amazing the power of nature to heal itself if just given the chance. I know that just in my own interactions with nature I feel the healing power myself, and always feel refreshed and rejuvinated after spending time outside. This trip was certainly a challenge but a rewarding one at that. Thanks for watching and offering your perspective Carol!

@@WALTERZOLNA I know it is very different with every aspect of hiking a multi-day Trail. I learned a lot watching Jay wanders out honest through hikes. With that said I think you did an amazing job. I know on the 14-mile day that was grueling and wanting to get to your location and continue hiking it becomes somewhat of a challenge. However if you were doing a thru-hike you would quickly adapt into a style that is you. I was just thinking with myself prior to the stroke that would have been an easy hike for me but as I watched it I was thinking once it starts going uphill what you guys had a lot of up hills I would have definitely fallen behind I think that would have been about an 8-day Journey for me LOL but it is something I am striving to get back to. Thank you for the awesome video!

You know I love your point about getting out of your comfort zone, it can really help a person to grow and I think this was a great experience for both Ryan and myself. I had to watch your video again , and I saw a bigfoot hiding in the trees. The worst section is the switch back to Sproul point , that hurt. I took four days I am a slower hiker, to many times I stopped to talk to look at everything, and it rained for three days. I wish more people would rewatch your videos it takes a while for it all to sink in and the shear beauty of your videos. The old loggers path would make a great no talking video and just the beauty of nature it overwhelms the senses if you can take it all in.

Nothing wrong with taking your time and soaking it all in. Im no fan of switchbacks myself, personally I would rather go straight up, climb even, and just get it over with. Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it. It's ALOT of work in making a video, people have no idea, simply hiking/backpacking is very challenging, but setting up shots, the going back and forth, and most importantly making it seem completely natural, thats a real challenge. I do consider this one of my best videos personally, I spent a long time in the editing. Are you familiar with Kraig Adams? If you like silent hiking films he pretty much elevated the genre into an art form. He hikes the most beautiful trails in the world and has been a huge influence on how I have developed my style.

It may not be much to some people but day two's 13.5 miles with a full backpack was the most I have ever pushed myself on a hike that is for sure. I thought about this alot during the trip but backpacking has alot of metaphors to life. A start, middle, and end. Good times, bad times, challenges, and struggles, and obstacles continue to present themselves, but you have to just keep pushing forward...

@@WALTERZOLNA Nature can be very resilient, if left alone and with a little stewardship. However, man cannot kill off species. They will never come back. In the logging pictures, the trees were huge. I don't think there were any like that on your hike. Can you imagine the area with old growth? It would have been amazing. Almost like the Sequoias. Maybe another 200 years. PA is a farming state, No doubt there were farmers who owned large tracts who either cut trees themself for extra income, or were paid by lumber companies. One thing that has always been true is poor people will sell anything to stay alive, and living up in the hills and mountains of PA was not an easy life. No unemployment insurance, no Social Security for the old folks, o health insurance, no foodstamps. no food pantry, and probably no free clothing if you needed it. A lot of that had to wait for the Depression and Roosevelt.
