The Ultimate Compact Video Light for Macro, Wide, and Snooting
Check out the complete companion article to this video for more: www.backscatter.com/reviews/p...
The Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light is the ultimate video light for any video or photo shooter. Its compact size is great for travel, its versatile for macro and wide shooters, and offers practical signaling options usable on any dive that goes way beyond a simple SOS pattern.
The 4300-lumen wide beam is great for compact camera shooters looking for a small compact light that has a bright output for wide angle video.
The 1400-lumen macro beam has been tailor-made for macro video shooters for all levels, from GoPro and compact all the way to full-frame SLR and cinema.
Photographers looking for a focus light have plenty of power, plus a red mode for night time to avoid spooking critters and ruining the shot.
Divemasters and guides will love the Alert and Beacon modes to get a diver's attention and to mark off locations on a night dive.
Wide angle shots captured with Canon EOS R5.
Macro shots captured with Sony A7S III.

Great light! What are the CRI values for macro and wide angle? Also, what is the diameter of the front of the light (i.e. for adding an ambient light filter)?

I use this 4300 light with my Olympus TG6 camera. I get a orange hotspot in my pics. I wish I could find a light diffuser cap to soften the light up. Any ideas?

I’ve been using these lights for almost a year now and now that I have paired it with the GoPro 10 my content hasn’t gotten even better. I have noticed that when I’m using them at depth where there’s less natural light the whites get a red tint that is super hard to take out on post. I’m assuming that this is because of the camera trying to white balance. Should I use blue filters to avoid this?

Are you shooting with a filter on the camera?

How do you secure the tray with flex arms & lights to your BCD when you need your hands (say to ascend a wreck line & hang out for your safety stop)? I don’t see any holes in the tray by the base of the flex arms to secure a handle either to facilitate handoff of the system to the dive crew. Thank you for your videos they have been very helpful.

Our favorite way to secure any camera system to our BCD is with this simple lanyard: www.backscatter.com/Cetacea-Housing-Coiled-Lanyard-with-Brass-Snap There are holes in the bottom of the tray to loop the lanyard through. Also, we have an updated version of this tray that is now shipping that is longer and accommodates a top-mounted rail for easier handoffs from the water: www.backscatter.com/Backscatter-Wide-Double-Handle-Tray-Arch-Package

I use the same lanyard, and I clip it on a D ring on the front of my BCD. In the Keys, sometimes you need both hands, sometimes two strong hands when the current is rippin, to descend down the line to the wreck. Same ascending up the ladder. Clipped on it hangs there on my BCD.

Nice! Can they be operated for long out of water before they overheat? What happens when they overheat?
@backscatteruw
@backscatteruw 3 жыл бұрын
They're only intended for in-water use. There is a thermal protection circuit built in to prevent damage from overheating.

When using a red filter on the camera, is it recommended to use any of the blue color filters from the color filter system to help balance the reds? I generally use a red filter on camera and blue filters on video lights so that reds are captured correctly on both far and near subjects
@backscatteruw
@backscatteruw Жыл бұрын
The filters from the Color Filter System are not meant to balance to ambient light and don't work like that - they are just for creative colorful elements in the shot. In general though, what you are describing is accurate and you can absolutely use both a red filter on the camera and ambient light filters on video lights.

Hi, when do you use one-light and two-light setup? Can I place the lights in a different tray i.e. = Nauticam? The remedy for the red mode is the color balance of the camera? How long is your delivery time if I am in the Philippines?
@backscatteruw
@backscatteruw Жыл бұрын
We recommend using two lights for wide angle and one for macro. The lights adapt to any arms or mounts that use 1" ball or YS style connectors. Not sure what you mean by "remedy for the red mode"? We have dealers in the Philippines, and we ship internationally every day from California. International shipping times vary depending on service selected and local customs procedure.

@@backscatteruw The red light for stealth mode, how do you make it white again? Do you use a filter or fix it in post? May I have the dealers in the Philippines? I wasn't able to see them online.
@backscatteruw
@backscatteruw Жыл бұрын
The red light is just for hunting or helping your camera autofocus at night using a very low power which will be overcome by the brightness of the strobe. www.f8photo.ph/

We recommend changing the battery after two dives, but always having a spare set of batteries on the boat to change when needed is a smart move.

flex arms v.s. ball mount arms for GoPro and compact cameras? Been in this debate for a long time, there doesn't seem to be a clear pro and cons list any where on youtube.
@backscatteruw
@backscatteruw Жыл бұрын
Flex arms and less expensive, lighter, and easier to put into position quickly. They are also really squeaky and struggle to hold heavy lights. Ball mount arms can be locked into place more securely and can have buoyancy compensation added to them. They also do better with heavier lights to hold them more securely. You can always feel free to give us a call and we'll gladly discuss the options with you!
