I know this is going to be good! I love it! I am converting a metal shed into a chicken coop and building a run. So, we will see just what a good teacher you are. I just got the materials yesterday. Got to dig holes and plant the 4x4x8's into the ground with cement. I definitely need to get some of those nice tools you have. My chicks are 3 weeks old, so I got to hurry too. The siding is awesome! Great job! I love it! You and Danielle did such a great build there. I am looking forward to seeing the finished build. Being able to move it is a great idea too. Love it.. and I do chickens.. I've built alot of coops in my day. You can cut down future problems at this stage by treating the floor, either with paint or linoleum., for a easier clean out. Go buy a floor register vent for it, you can control air flow in extreme Temps with it. . Curtains on the nest boxes will help deter them from sleeping in the nest. I would add a inch slope on the nest box to create a roll away box..a catch area is nice , I've used silverware drawer dividers cut down. it's easier to eliminate a big issue than train a chicken. I'm super impressed. The birds will love it.

Simple Living Alaska has a big channel put linoleum in their chicken coop. The cleanup is so easy.

Well, glad you mentioned it at the end and am looking forward to seein how you expand on that cause that thing looks awfully darn small for any descent amount of chickens....Very nicely built though...Once you said you were going to add on to it then it makes sense as i was sitting here trying to figure out how and why you were putting all that effort and cost into such a nice build that would be that small just to have to do it again bigger later most likely..,,Guess ya need to watch the whole video before you start questioning things ya think lol ???...

I think you need to remember that there's just the two of them. They definitely won't need more than 4-6 hens max if they just need the chickens for eggs. Especially if they get some brown production hens that lay the extra large brown eggs. We just have 3 people in our household and we had about 6-8 hens. We ended up with way more eggs than we needed so we had to give quite a bit of eggs away. That in itself was a hassle because we kept running out of egg cartons because we never bought eggs, and the people that we were giving the eggs to kept forgetting to keep the egg cartons.

I made those half lap joints the other day and tested 3 methods, by far the easiest and cleanest way was using the compound mitre saw with a block of wood on the fence as spacer. Try it sometime.

So love your coop. They need nesting boxes and more space. Don't forget to give them oyster shells for making the egg shell hard. They also need grovel.
