Backyard Ultra World Record DESTROYED by Harvey Lewis

At this years Big Dog's Backyard Ultra we saw 75 runners compete from all over the world. Over twenty of the runners ran over 300 miles, and two of them broke the Backyard Ultra world record. Harvey Lewis, from the USA, took the win with 108 laps - a total of 450 miles, and a close second place went to Ihor Verys, from Canada, with 107 laps.

It's very much worth noting that any record-breaker of a backyard ultra is only as good as their closest competition. The backyard ultra format is as much a team sport almost as much as a relay. Harvey's record wouldn't be possible at all without the grit of Ihor Verys making it as long he did as well. It's wild that, despite the hundreds of miles ran, the difference between a backyard ultra is usually less than 4 miles.

IMHO the finisher of BY is always better than the closest competition. When I looked at the PBs, I found many runners, who gave up way before their recent PBs. But Harvey and Ihor were not intimidated by the fact, that there were 4 runners with a PB of 100+. Especially Ihor did incredibly raise his PB. That means BY is not about records, BY is about competition and the believe, that you will beat anyone who shows up.

Did my first one 3 weeks ago. What an amazing experience! I learned a lot: Unsupported is possible, but only to a certain point I guess. at the end I had you quit in part because of my organizational errors. I had some goals however: finish 7 yards (a marathon), finish 8 yards (50k), till nightfall (10yards), 12 yards (half a day), 15 yards (100k). With 11 yards I achieved some of my goals and I was still very happy with the outcome, considering my longest distance to this point where 25k. I'm totally hooked. Enjoy your run(s)!

Amazing Harvey 👏👏👏 I had my first Backyard Last One Standing this year in July in Scotland - managed 31 loops 🌱💪🥳 Already signed up for next year 🙌 Insane what human body can achieve 🥰

That's the rule of backyard as far I know. You cannot do a backyard loop with only one person starting. The race is over and automatically the winner is declared when there is less than 2 people to start the next loop

@@ghpatriot awww come on now little patriot! Surely you're happy that women and men are basically on a level playing field beyond 100 miles? That they often finish not just top 10, but overall 1st place? Doesn't that make you smile, that more and more often, men and women compete on equal footing in these huge challenges? You sound like a guy who really respects the other half of the world's population, so I'm sure you support and encourage ALL athletes! ❤❤
