KARCHER Pressure washer won't START - How to quickly and easily fix a KARCHER K2 K4 or KARCHER K5 K6 pressure washer that WILL NOT TURN ON. PLEASE watch this video before GIVING UP on your Karcher K2 K4 or K5 K6 jet wash. Don't assume that the Karcher K2 K4 or K5 K6 premium pressure washer is broken because it will not turn on. It is a fairly common fault that is caused by trapped air in the system. When air is trapped, the machine will not turn on because it is fitted with a safety switch that will not allow the motor to run when air is in the system.
This problem is usually easily rectified by simply bleeding the system to get rid of any trapped air.
In this video I show how quick and easy this is to do, and I am fairly confident that this will FIX the issue.
I ended up buying a new Karcher pressure washer because I assumed that my Karcher K5 premium pressure washer was broken as it would not switch on. I changed the fuse in the plug, swore at it, hit it with a hammer and it still did not work !
I could not bare to throw it out as it was only just over a year old and I vowed to take a look at it once I had time. Finally I had some time to research the issue and found this information on the internet. It worked a treat and I thought that I would share it in the hope that the information provided helps some other Karcher pressure washer owners out there who are experiencing similar problems !
I have had it confirmed that this also works for the Karcher K2 and K4 pressure washers as well as the Karcher K5 pressure washer.

Absolute legend. I have had this problem several times over the last 12 months, even taking the Karcher back to the repair centre and being made a fool of, to be told, nothing wrong, couldn't find a problem. Such a simple fix, why don't Karcher mention this on their Web site, or the Service desk or even the repair centre for this simple fix? Thank you for your valuable information.

Thank you - After not using my K5.7 for a long time I was also about to try and take it apart to check that the power was getting to the unit. After trying your advice for a few minutes without success - your mention of bleeding the water hose for a good 5 minutes got me thinking about where else could a tiny air leak get into the system as all hoses seamed good - then I thought about the now empty (upside down) soap bottle - maybe being empty was enough to trick the system - so I half filled it and within a minute of bleeding the water as per your video - the karcher was running normally !! Maybe my soap bottle is very old and may be leaking some air into the system - but filling it plus following your advice FIXED the PROBLEM - thank you !!!!!

Great advice. I had bought the K2 to replace an old model which had stopped working. I was about to replace the K2 which had also stopped working before I saw your video. Now I have two Karchers in working order. There's no need to detach the lance. Just pull the trigger with the power off and let it squirt water through until the air is dispelled. That will be my routine now everytime I use the Karchers. What do you do with two Karchers?

Just a quick thank you, you saved my bacon. The Karcher K2 that I borrowed off my former bosses son worked when I used it the week before, but because I laid it down in the boot of my car, it no longer worked, leaving me at a client's house with a none functioning power wash. Thank you! I almost threw mine away! You saved me loads of money. It interesting that when I first started the bleed process there was a hollow rushing sound like the machine was empty even though the flow was perfect. and I thought, oh well I am going to be the unlucky one for who this fix won't work. 2 minutes into the bleed the hose started to splutter a bit. It never really stopped spluttering but the rushing sound had stopped so I assumed the machine had filled and tried it and it started. My advice is to definitely spend at least 5 minutes bleeding with a good flow of water.

As per all other comments: great solution for a niggling and potentially expensive issue. Thanks so much for posting the video. Like others, I was thinking of internal fuses, thermal fuses or even a burnt out motor following a hard session of power washing the last time i used the Karcher.

Other than getting the hose connector turned around (watch out for that one), the machine is simple to put together and use kzfaq.infoUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP . And very nice, too. I'm surprised at the power-it's more than we'll ever need, and we've not even used the most powerful setting yet.I've cleaned off a dirty concrete porch to get it ready for sealing, started to clean siding, and I know this pressure washer will be terrific for cleaning tools this fall.The only issue we had is we had turned around the hose connector, and it leaked. Once it was on correctly, though, we had no problems with the connection. Just remember that the end with the green knob goes towards the hose. It's obvious now what we did wrong, but not necessarily obvious at the time.

Amazing. We have had our Karcher for a number of years so getting it out yesterday to pressure wash the patio no power - we changed the fuse in the plug, tried different plug sockets and extension cables with no success. Just about to take it to the Repair Cafe and thought I would check if there were any fixes. NOW WORKING. Saved us the cost of a new Karcher. Many thanks.

Top tip and absolutely spot on. I’ve had pressure washers for twenty plus years and worked in plant hire for twice that and this was a new one for me. I’ve been cursing Karcher and I’ve been looking at Stihl and Bosch machine’s to replace this troublesome K5 machine but this worked 100%

Well, well. New mowing g season, got the mower up to wash under deck... K2 (with short pistol fitted to point upwards) won't switch on though Parkside with too-long lance will work. Come looking for answers, this comes up. I notice my handle... I've been here before, had forgotten the 'trick'. Learned again, tried it, it WORKS! Cleaned under deck, no rusting in time to come! Well done on finding a simple fix. I have 2 karchers older types a 7 series and a 7.85. The 7 series had 2 faults- faulty switch and internally blown lance handle, both replaced and still works fine 2 years on. Easy fixes.The 7.85 had a faulty switch, it is a poor design in my opinion and must have been the cause of thousands of these machines being thrown away needlessly!!. You can either pay £35.for a new switch or throw what was a £400. machine away and start again. I found another way, if you wedge a rubber block(internally) behind the switch this cures the problem and it now works perfectly every time, the only thing is you turn it on/off at the wall socket using a circuit breaker plug for safety- which I would always recommend anyway when using any jet wash as water and electric are always a potential danger. Come on Karcher- sort your switches out! They are letting down otherwise good machines.

Thanks a lot pal, i left mine running water through for 25 minutes, connected back up because it was still spluttering bad even at 15 minutes, had left washer up 4 years, bought it in 2017 used it 3 times on a car and drive, was shocked when went to use it again and nothing....... Done as suggested, SHES ALIVE and working as intended as they arent cheap...... I've always wondered how many have fecked them out and bought a new one😂😂

Sometimes the problem is due to a bad connection at the tap end, allowing air to be sucked in along with the water.

I whipped out my k3 I have only used a handful times to find it wouldn't turn on. After messing with fuses in the plug etc I was ready to pick the thing up and launch it down the road. After watching your video it works fine now! You sir are a legend.

Thanks very much for posting this! Like others stated, I was thinking mine was destined for the trash, or a very expensive repair. But, it worked for mine just as you demonstrated. I feel I just saved several hundred dollars. I’ve had my pressure washer for five or six years and it’s really been a useful tool around the house.

Brilliant! I've got a 5 year old K4. Just tried to clean the car and it was dead. After a mouth full of swearing and thinking I'd have to replace it I looked up fixes on KZfaq. thanks for this video. It sorted it out immediately.

Having looked at a number of these Karcher repair videos, I haven’t actually seen any feedback from the company as to why they seem to build-in so many problems in what are not cheap appliances!! If would appear that all of their models suffer from pressure leakage, (from failing castings, not just replaceable gaskets): and other annoying faults. My old K2 has such a problem, and if I can’t fix it, I’m loathe to buy another Karcher when they don’t seem to care. ?? Thanks for the video, and I hope mine is fixable when I strip it down.

I know, I have contacted Karcher regarding this particular issue and they did not even respond. I also contacted them on instagram and again they did not respond........I can't understand their complete lack of customer service for such a well known brand. I think they have a monopoly in the market, but I think they should up their game when it comes to answering genuine queries....it is strange why they do not have this particular issue in their trouble shooting guide when it clearly affects so many machines.............poor ! 😡

I noticed Karcher is a German manufacturer..and there product is grossly overpriced considering the high price and repair costs, and like you say, you never here any feedback regarding the High volume of faults they throw up, I'm on my 3rd and LAST!!.. why do the German companies think they are superior and charging a fortune for their products, when their reliability is so low..found this from Mercedes to Karcher.

Thank you so much for the advice. I've spent 1.5 hours swearing out loud. I tried 6 different exstention cables, 4 different power sockets, I thought it was the main power source. I use my karcher just to wash the car. Hardly used. So I had to Google the problem and your video came up. Tried it and it worked. Thank you.

Thanks you very much, this just saved me £400, after checking all the fuses i was convinced this was a compressor or motor fault and was just about to press buy on a new washer, then thought "i'll just see if anyone else has has the same fault", Worked a treat!! Thanks

Wow - just about to sling the Karcher after weeks of intermittant problems - well done that man !!!! I did note that my "solution" mixer control wasn't on MIN despite never using the bottle and guessed that it might have been trying to suck "product" into the mix and hence the ingress of air..... anyhow, you just saved me £200 this fine bank holiday weekend.. cheers for that sir.

This guy is a genius. Absolutely fantastic! Left my K5 outside over winter. Turned on the black rotary power knob. Dead as a dodo. Thought it was all my fault as the frost will have got to it. Watched this video left water running for 10 minutes and then fingers crossed still didn't power up. Left the water running a further 10 minutes. Hey presto! So don't give up and persevere. I was just about to put in on the local for sale page @ £30 spares or repair and buy a new one. Somebody watching this video would have got a bargain. Thank you again Sir.

Prior to successfully carrying out your repair, my own K4 was beginning to lose power and was slow to get going. After carrying out your fix my washer is a completely different animal which suggests to me that it might be worth periodically bleeding these machines out to help keep them running properly.

I can’t actually believe this worked, not even 10mins and my 7year old K2 lives on! Been 6months since it didn’t switch on one day, changed fuse and nothing. Bit nippy right now but the car and patio will be getting a well needed clean tomorrow if it’s not poring down, thanks

Hi, Karcher 4.99 probably 6 or 7 years old, sitting in Dubai sun for last two years...turned it on, COMPLETELY DEAD! Followed your instructions exactly (only thing is with my model you need Allen key to open the complete lance, about 6 or 8 screws)...did this, then followed your instructions, worked 100%!!! Was about to buy a new one of Amazon...thank God for your video! Thanks again!!! :) :)

Karcher service centre: don’t know what it is could be a multitude of problems, bring it in £60 will fix and service. 15 mins into 1hr 30min round trip and thought, whats the matter with you check out KZfaq! Pulled over and watched your video and thought, give it a go so turned round and went home. THANK YOU SO MUCH. You saved me £60 getting ripped off by Karcher who could have said try this first . 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks KZfaq too…

Thank you soooo much for this video!!! Had used the washer yesterday and all was fine, but when I tried today it was dead as a doornail. Like the others had checked the fuse but luckily hadn't resorted to dismantling it yet. Searched on YT and came across your BRILLIANT solution. Followed your instructions and hey presto.....working like a dream!!! Why Karcher are not advising on their website or even in their user manual of this simple solution is somewhat questionable 🤔 🤔 THANK YOU AGAIN...A very happy lady😁😁

I would have brought my almost new K5 in for repairs tomorrow. But last night I thought, that can't be right, the thing isn't even a year old and I only used it twice last fall. So I searched on youtube and found your video. Tried it this morning, works. What a crap, why don't the write this into the manual? After checking the electric and changing the fuse, I was on the point of booking a service for £80 plus the cost of a new switch, or pump, or motor. Blood pressure has returned to normal.
