I did drill a new hole in the bracket to get closer to the 2" and it did seem to make a difference initially with consistency of closing, but lately this has gotten worse. If it is a matter of decreasing L-bracket tightness, that does make sense. Thank you very much!! Now I just have to learn how to weld!?!?!

+zakdigital Nothing to it! A small 110v Lincoln Welder from Home Depot will do fine, although it will still set you back several hundred bucks for the machine, mask, and roll of wire. You can teach yourself to weld by watching KZfaq videos pretty quickly. One other thing you can do is to mark the arm in the closed position with a Sharpie. Then you'll be able to tell if the arm is stopping in the same place each time. Mark everything, in fact. Draw a line down the side of the L bracket/straight bracket/bottom l bracket. Maybe that will help you track down what's causing the problems. Good luck!

With your help I am more certain that this is an issue that is a combination of slight L bracket movement and the lack of the > 2 " gap between the arm and the gate. Still working on this! Thanks again!

I actually resolved this issue by taking the master opener apart and putting it back together - I think when I tightened the internal screw mechanism at the tip of the opener it stopped it from slipping !!!! Let me know if you want more details.

Hey +Jason Ruis, just curious where did you find that the post bracket should not be parallel to the gate in the open position? I think that is how it is shown the installation manual. Also, what angle is best for the flat bracket, inward or outward? Thanks!

+zakdigital The Installation Manual shows the bracket to be installed in an incorrect way. The angle it uses puts a lot of strain on it when the arms start to move especially on heavier gates. Its better to install the post bracket in a way so the bolts that fasten it to the Gate post are not Parallel or Straight through the post. Take your slave arm for example, I would have taken the 2 Post Brackets and drilled them Not Straight Through the post but started offset the bracket to the right, that way the post brackets are off center and the post pivot bracket is parallel to the gate on the open position. This allows for stronger hold and quicker cycle times. I used to install them according to what the manual says but only after it being used a few years the holes that were drilled would be stretched and the brackets would become loose from all the tension of the motors. Since installing it this way by offsetting the post brackets behind the hinges I've not had that problem. Also I've noticed that the arms don't strain as bad as they do when installing it according to the manual. and it would Help Tremendously if you had a new Frame made for your gates, that would resolve them from hitting each other, also have the Horizontal Cross member welded to the frame so your arm could attach to that instead of the wood of your gate.

+Jason Ruis I see what you are saying now. Thanks for the expertise! Well, the gate is pretty bad, I'm sure that is probably most of my issue. The strange thing is, the slave gate, which installed in a very similar way, has yet to close incorrectly. Not sure why the master gate ALWAYS closes inconsistently...

+zakdigital one thing I've done that has helped is to wire the slave gate into the master terminal and the master gate into the slave terminal

No, the only way to close manually once the gates are connected is by detaching the openers from the brackets...

i can't find the receipt, but i do remember i got it for a little more than $500 via one of those Home Depot special buys of the day. i think usually it is a bit more expensive. sorry about that!

Shockingly the gate works just fine. Just looks pretty terrible :) Will be tearing it down soon and moving it to my driveway entrance. Just saving some $ first.

I was furious with the closing issues for YEARS. But now that I've solved it the system works pretty well. I use my phone to open and close the gates regularly now.
