The funny thing is a "buddy cop" film or TV show heavily depends on how the actor's gel on screen. No matter what else is going on in the film or TV show. They themselves can hold the whole thing together. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are amazing together in Bad Boys. On a side note, the new Marvel show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier tried to do the buddy cop theme in a superhero show and it just didn't work as the actors didn't gel on screen. Though it shows that Hollywood still leans on the theme even today.

On January 19, 1996, Simpson was found dead in the bathroom of his Bel Air, Los Angeles home. His death was initially attributed to "natural causes." An autopsy and toxicology report later determined that Simpson had died of heart failure caused by combined drug intoxication (cocaine and prescription medications) while going to the bathroom. At the time of his death, there were 21 different drugs in his system including antidepressants, stimulants, sedatives, and tranquilizers. In August 1996, investigative reporter Chuck Philips of The Los Angeles Times revealed that Simpson had been obtaining large quantities of prescription drugs from 15 different doctors, and that police found 2,200 prescription pills lined up in alphabetical order in his bedroom closet. A 1998 book by journalist Charles Fleming reported that Simpson's prescription drug expenses totaled more than $60,000 a month at the time of his death. He also referred to Don Simpson as "a supercharged simple-minded creature, an Aesop's fable on crystal meth."

For me it is the other way around. I absolutely love the first film, have it in my collection and have seen it probably a dozen times. The sequel I've tried to watch a couple of times, but within the first 10 minutes, I quit, because it just seemed so stupid. The first one had just the right combination of action, comedy and good chemistry between Martin and Will. The action was there, but not too OTT (a'la Michael Bay), so he had focus on other things to make the film work.

One of the most aged aspects of the film is the ending which has Tea Lioni and Will Smith's characters having an obvious attraction but they never acted on the attraction because the studio obviously didn't want to deal with an interracial relationship in a movie that isn't trying to break down any barriers.
@kirk1701
@kirk1701 4 жыл бұрын
It was the same in Hitch -- producers not wanting him in relationships that would break barriers -- yet the producers had zero issue with an Asian girl dating a white dude in that film (Hitch). Smith eventually got his revenge since he was able to act opposite Margot Robbie in "Focus" and have some kissing scenes with her.

Great video as always. :) The team behind this movie is truly all-star. The sequels lost part of the original crew along with the mojo of the first movie. Bay works best with small budgets and strong producers who know when to say no. The movie also had huge influence on 2002 one season action cop show Fastlane, which is one of the most insane shows ever. Basically, it's Miami Vice shot and written like a Bad Boys movie with lots of rock rap on the soundtrack. Also, how come Don Simpson's biopic hasn't been made yet?! Oh, and why is Marcus family on the cover art for the soundtrack?! :D

Kiss of the Dragon is Tcheky Karyo at his best. Despite the awesome action scenes he provides, This is coming from someone who is a fan of his. It works in this case because he's playing a cold secret agent type so that's fine. Whenever Karyo is in a movie, it immediately gets better. No offense, but I think it was rather odd that you ignore the fact that Martin Lawrence also starred on his own show. While it wasn't as popular as the Fresh Prince, but I do think the Martin show was also a big part of Lawrence's career. In fact, the thing of what made this film such of a novelty for me back when I first it, was the fact of seeing these two lead actors who had both starred in their own sitcom, that were personal fan favorites of mine, together in a buddy cop comedy was something I could never imagine back in the day. Unfortunately, that novelty have kind of wore off for me, as the years went on.

No mention of the crappy but kind of fun PS2 video game which ripped off Max Payne a bit (in a C grade kind of way)?

Still the best one. Bad boys for life was not good to me. How does a man fully recover from multiple gunshots at close range and then have the dumbest villain who is controlled my his mother...

The film itself is pretty generic, the bad is the bad guy but no one knows why, the protagonists are the bad boys but nobody knows why! The whole film is a long Music Video!

Well, not for me, Oliver. I didn't like this movie very much, and I don't think it was entertaining. The action scenes were routine, screenplay as F-bombs was so disappointed and stunned me, and two guys were too arguing and complaining to each other. Martin Lawrence didn't work out for me. He was pretty annoying and doing that dirty-mouth talking. Will Smith was may be charming, but way too cool. Except Tea Leoni was really gorgeous and grew on me more. Anyway, this type of buddy-cop formula does seems tired. It just recycled from other films, particularly like the "Lethal Weapon" and "Beverly Hills Cop" series, recurrent stock-characters, police detective clichés and over-long action scenes. I know that this movie was a big successful at the box office, and all of fans really enjoyed it a lot, and the chemistry between Martin Lawrence and Will Smith was fine. But I don't. and I think it was a mediocre, sloppy action film. So thumbs down for me on "Bad Boys". Bad Boys (1995) 2/4 👎👎

You don't do your username any favors with your incredibly selfish and ignorant comment. You DO realize that MANY people love this movie AND like the series generally, right? You're actually in a very small percent of viewers who DON'T think of this movie as a nostalgic classic, but yet you're sitting here, spouting your dismissive opinions as if they're a fact or something, when a good 80% of people who have seen this movie would say you're full of crap. I think you might want to consider removing the first word of your username.
