My first car in 1972 was a 4 door, 1957 Plymouth Plaza. It had been my grandfather's. No seat belts. 318ci engine in it. Fun car. I like watching that movie "Christine" (has the Fury) at times to remember it. No twist on oil filter, but the older can you put a filter into. Mechanical voltage regulator and a generator as I recall instead of an alternator. Bench seats, front and back, and could pile 8 people into it. It was a fun car. Easy to work under the hood too.
@JoeZyzyx
@JoeZyzyx Жыл бұрын
I remember the mechanical regulator had to be "polarized" by creating a short across the contacts in order to properly set it for the generator, if you plan to keep the original type charging system in it.

My grandfather had one of these (1956 Plymouth Belvedere), light yellow and white with white and black houndstooth interior as well as a huge white ivory steering wheel and push button trans. The yellow was where the darker brown is on this one and white everywhere the lighter brown/tan is. What a beautiful car. My grandfather took incredible care of the car. He even painted the engine and would work on it himself. Unfortunately in 1972 someone t-boned him and destroyed the car. He and my grandmother were crushed since they had had the car for 18 years.

this one Cracked me up my Dad had a late 70# Mopar and this motor and the start up sounded exactly like the one My Old Man had I do not remember the make or model my Dad inherited the car from his Fathers Estate ironically i moved 100 mils and i was given that car to use as a tow vehicle for a MG B i pulled with a tow bar to my new location and i sold the old Mopar when i got settled i liked that car because it still had the old fashioned fresh air Vents under the dashboard and on the highway with a window slightly opened you had a heck of a Vortec of fresh air throughout the entire passenger compartment

You did a great buy on this car. A lot of the 56 Plymouth had a lot of rust issues. The body on this car is extremely solid. 1956 Plymouth was the first year to have the tail fins, one year before the 1957 Chevy. I am an old Mopar fan and love these older Mopars. Great purchase and great video. Bill

I do not know how other people feel, but I’ve become disenchanted with how these builds often end abruptly and you move on. The cab over, the Bugatti, and now the pickup… I believe many of your fans would like to see a complete build. The truck pushed me over the edge as I wanted to see it taken all the way thru paint. I have a great imagination, but I’ll just move on to One of the plethora of other shows that at least give us our cargasm! Bitchin Rides, Iron Resurrection, Shortys Dream Shop, Texas Metal… Ian Russell and even Richard Rawlins… they all complete the builds.

I agree, it is frustrating. Much like tuning in to watch someone bake a cake but who quits halfway through and starts to make cookies. I believe Chad's skills and interests are limited so he concentrates on what he is capable of doing well then moves on. But it would be nice to know in advance how far he intends to take a project before we invest so much time watching him cut, shape, weld and fill over and over. There is so much more involved in building a car that many of us are interested in and would like to see. This is not bad mouthing, just some personal thoughts I decided to share. I still tune in but not nearly as often.

I remember trying to sleep in the back window area of our Plymouth Savoy when I was around 2 years old and my older brother and me had to sleep in the car rather than in a cabin with our parents and sister at yellowstone Natl park. Don't know if it was a 56 but that back window area reminded me of that. I rolled off and landed on the back seat a lot. Who knew David Crosby had an old Plymouth for sale?

It’ll give the ‘57 Chevy a run for its looks and popularity when Bad Chad fine tunes her. Look out! :) Congrats on your purchase. Fair price. You done did good. I know Jim bo is gonna be impressed when he sees her! A good deal is when the seller and the buyer are happy.

something like that here in the states would be like oh $14k to $18k USD? of course here in the USA they're a Belvedere, different paint schemes and trim levels, engine options so forth run a guy at least 3 times that amount for the similar condition.. a dead minter is around $35k+ low mile dead mnter $70k+ ... that one has the big engine so more likely than not holds a premium for that alone, freshened up that car is worth triple that easily... nice ride for sure, the mid 50's were it for the automotive industry, real power arrived, auto trans, limited slip, and unlike any other generation they were the heaviest of all cars ever made, better steel, thicker gauge, heavier genuine chassis, the ride is like no other..

@1575murray
@1575murray Жыл бұрын
The 1956 styling was definitely an improvement leading into the longer and wider 1957 models. All the big three automakers were going in the same direction while competing for market share. Unfortunately, Chrysler suffered later in the decade from poor quality control and body designs that tended to rust out prematurely especially in northern climates where a lot of salt was used to clear the roads in winter.

@@hotrodray6802 Google: 'The 277 "Hy-Fire" was the first A-block engine, produced for 1955 in the fall of 1954 and sharing almost nothing but the basic concepts with other engines built by Chrysler'. The A engine was first released in 1956 and was used exclusively in Plymouths until 1958 and in Chryslers and Dodges from 1959 on. NOTE: The Desoto and Dodge 270/315/325 poly was not related to the Plymouth Polys, using the same bottom end as the Dodge and Desoto Red Ram Hemi, but utilizing similar head architecture. Also NOTE: The A engine formed the design basis of its successor, the LA engine, evidenced in the many parts that interchange between the two engine families. * I will say, only the '62-on cranks could be used in LA's. 303 (I didn't mention 318 :) also available in '56 Plymouth. Not related to early hemi. The old hemi used a valley pan. I don't want a medal, but I've owned 48 Mopars, and rebuilt many polys from '56 thru '65. Hope this clarifies things. Paul. ps, my white '62 Dart h/top has a factory power pack 4bbl 318 poly.

My Dad had a 56 Plymouth. I still remember sitting on my Mom's lap and pretending that I was driving the car by using the radio speaker grill to turn it with. Dad also had some blue lights in the centre part of the grill.
