Thanks Geoff. Glad you all enjoyed it. New book is coming along slowly. I hope to have big announcement type thing soonish - probably by June?? In the meantime I'm very proud and surprised to be featured in the new Thames & Hudson giant street anthology called Reclaim The Street - edited by Matt Stuart and Steve McLaren which is out in April. Which should be good.

Hi Stephan. Thanks so much; hugely enjoyable! Thanks for the work and energy you put into these. I don't see episode #7 - The Americans? Especially enjoy the ongoing psychopathic nuns theory!
@stephenlesliephoto

Hello George, sorry for the late reply - Summer holidays and work have intruded. Episode 7 is there but it's mainly on Dogs or the lack of dogs in Robert Frank's The Americans. Although that book pops up in a few other episodes as well. The psycho Nun theory is more than just a theory though, it's an actual fact. I think. Thanks for watching. More to follow soonish, I hope.

I have been bingeing on several of your episodes today. Your historical and interpretive approach to these varied photographic themes enriches the images and those who took them. I find your existential approach, aided by a sardonic sense of humor, to be a corrective to the overly optimistic perspectives on life. Life is difficult and uncertain. You have me looking over my shoulder for those maurading brigades of killer nuns! All jokes aside, placing the photographers and the photographs in a historical context with narrative makes their work come alive. Excellent work!

Great episode. Dark and funny and wise. Fascinating look at the luck, good and bad, involved in street and journalism photography. The ghoulish aspect is real, but so is the need to look at the reality of death. Obsessive and obsessed, compelled and compelling. Love it.

Im all in Stephen, not too long at all, in fact I watched it twice. Your audience is with you, we love the whimsical presentation, nuns and all. I agree that Pesci did a great job at the Weegee character, even if it wasn't a film about Weegee. Pesci did a better portrayal of Weegee than say Johnny Depp's portrayal of Gene Smith (IMO) speaking of Gene Smith, Greg Crewdson is on the "a small voice" podcast of of late. What does this have to do with bad luck, nothing. However you did bring him up in another episode. Thanks again for another informative and entertaining Show and Tell.

A little jarring to hear my last name repeated in connection with racketeering and murder, but I do appreciate the correct pronunciation. This doesn’t really help in your search for a Weegee nun, but I had two great aunts and one aunt, all Mancusos, who were nuns. Geese of God (Flying Nun headdresses). As far as I know, none ever murdered anyone. The depth of the research! It would be great to hear about your research process and sources. The length is fine: matched by great content and wit!!!
@stephenlesliephoto
@stephenlesliephoto Жыл бұрын
The Geese of God! Amazing. I must know more.... Glad you like the film my research process is basically just to look at everything on a particular subject until my brain starts to hurt and my back seizes up due to bad posture. Then I have to find all the photos, read loads of books and interviews, write a rough script, add some bad jokes and then edit the whole thing together in a mad rush, cursing the fact that I am utterly unable to ever keep things brief. That's about it.
