This review was originally posted in March 2010, and has been re-cut for this re-posting, losing 1m 58s of footage. This is largely from some fairly long film clips, but there's also a bit where I got the virus wrong that's been erased here. This is the first episode of my second season, which followed from the cliffhanger in The Jazz Singer review, where I was "fired" from Channel Awesome (which was a joke upon the fact that I was so unpopular at the time), hence the opening sequence. I've also had to obviously replace the Limp Bizkit cover of the Mission Impossible theme with the version from the SNES game. Hope you enjoy!

The face masks look ridiculously fake when they pull them off... I mean you cannot believe these would work like a real human face when looking at those scenes. I half expected them to keep pulling masks off until it is revealed Ethan was Old Man Wickers and he would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids and that darn dog!

I love this movie. Oh, Mathew is not wrong in anything he said about it, I just love it anyway. :) Remember how the Nostalgia Critic said of Commando, "It's ungodly stupid, but I love every minute of it"? That's my relationship to this movie. This is my personal favorite So Bad It's Good movie. It's really a shame that there's a multitude of reasons, not the least of which being Cruise's ego, that would keep this film off of MST3k. :-D

I'm gonna be honest here, I genuinely though that Film Brain was a part of the poster before realising that it was just added in as a thumbnail image... That being said having Film Brain IN Mission Impossible II would've made it a far better movie than what it was.

While I agree that this is the weakest Mission Impossible movie, I still enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure. I dunno, maybe I just have a thing for John Woo movies.

Is this the sequel to Mission Impossible or Face Off, with all the removable faces.

This movie doesn't just give homage to Notorious with the racetrack bit. There are whole scenes and major plot points copied wholesale. In fact, there are films which are ostensibly remakes of other films that have less in common with the original. It's one of the stranger aspects of this movie.

Of course 'the middle of Sydney' is beach-adjacent scrubland, as all places in Australia are.

The only Mission: Impossible movie I dislike - and I don't only dislike it; I HATE it. It shouldn't be part of the canon. Was Woo inspired by the beginning of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier for the beginning of this film? I don't know which is more overbearing - Woo's pretentious use of slow-mo or Zimmer's beat-it-into-your-skull rock soundtrack.

Let's be honest, there was ONE other good thing that came out of this movie: Wes Borland's guitar work on the theme song. (But just his guitar; the less said about the lead *ahem* "vocalist" of that group the better)

2 questions my friend. 1. Despite the poor quality of the film, did you think Roxburgh's performance as Stamp was a good part of the film? And if so, do you think he should have been involved more? 2. Do you think the fight between Hunt and Stamp should have been longer?

It was due to the delays in this film holding up Dugray Scott that we got High Jackman as Wolverine; and even in the lesser X- films Jackman was great IN them, thus we must consider this the best Mission: Impossible film!

This could not be less like the original Mission: Impossible TV show. Mission: Impossible episodes were always basically elaborate cons, where the IMF team used deception and manipulation to set someone up to take a fall. There was very little violence, and almost no gunplay or explosions. At the end, the victim was generally taken down by his own people. Granted, this was because it was a TV show with a limited budget and had to operate under the restrictions imposed by network TV, but you know what? Sometimes, that's actually a GOOD thing, as it prevents the show from turning into a bloated, self-indulgent vanity project like this.

I could fill a whole review ALONE with all the things they got wrong about Spain. Seriously, this movie is infamous here because of all the mistakes they made about Spain.

I tried watching this movie during my franchise re-watch before Dead Reckoning Part One, but I got all of 70 minutes in before I got too bored to keep going. Scott is a uncharismatic bore, and the whole thing felt like a bad imitation of a Pierce Brosnan 007 film mixed with a flashy Hong Kong action film that has no action scenes for more than half the runtime. The constant mask fake outs were annoying, too. I can’t believe Dougray Scott was actually originally cast as Wolverine. He hasn’t a screen presence or a lick of talent here that Hugh Jackman has in spades.

Got to give credit to Mission Impossible as a franchise for being around for almost 30 years and if the only one people dislike the most is the second movie and the rest range from solid enough action movie to great action movies that really push the limits of what you can do with filmmaking, than that’s got to mean something

I generally Loved Mission Impossible 2 The Most Because it’s not really Mission Impossible But I did Like Ghost Protocol

i admit this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. But you're right Tom is seriously mugging the camera. Nothing is practical.... But it does look really cool. I guess they replaced good storytelling and plot for testroserone spluging on a screen

Well, i love the movie. I got into it in 2000 and i still get into it. Its not the best Mission Impossible, i know that. But its definitely not Speed 2 for crying out loud. So many people have been so shortsighted and unfair in their criticism of this movie. I think MI2 is ghe coolest Mission Impossible. I think MI3 is the weakest. I mean, did you hear that song during the end credits??

Or maybe, they could of just got him on the helicopter and explained it to him then.

Great beat down. It is a terrible movie. That said, I don’t mind the mountainclimbing scene, Cruise does look amazing. Just loop that for 2 hours and leave out the rest.

Hot take: the only good Mission Impossible movie was the first one.

Broken Arrow aside from Pulp Fiction was BY FAR the best Travolta performance. Never found him talented (acting) but he does a pretty good bad guy whether it be Pulp Fiction, Broken Arrow, and Face Off
