UK police driver training is only to indicate if another road user would benefit from the signal otherwise DONT indicate. Your where not close enough to need a signal and no other road user needed it so the police driver was correct. The whole purpose is not to confuse other drivers with unnecessary signals and to reduce undue wear on the vehicle components.

There is a difference between what you are taught when learning for your driving test and what is taught to police drivers and advanced driving courses. Police are taught only to indicate if it is a benefit to other road users, from what i can see there was no need to indicate. Another example i can think of concerning roundabouts is maintaining lane discipline, a basic test will teach you to alway be in your lane when going round but police courses will teach to use the whole road as long as it is safe to do so

The police always drive around Fleetwood like that. In all honesty though you don’t need to use indicators if no one will benefit from it.
