Here’s something you can try if you ever find yourself in a “no crank” no start situation. Starter motors eventually wear out and usually at the most inconvenient time and places. If you locate the starter and give it a whack or two, that can sometimes wake it up and allow you to start your vehicle and get home safely. This is only a temporary solution and the starter motor Will need to be replaced because there is no guarantee that this will work the next time! This trick can also work with a bad fuel pump as well by giving the gas tank a nice thump. Ask me how I know…. If your starter is mounted somewhere slightly inaccessible, you can sometimes use a stick or a jack handle or something like that from up top in the engine compartment or through a wheel well opening to touch and make contact with the starter and then whack the end of the stick. My old trailblazer was like that so I’d use a breaker bar. Just make sure you don’t accidentally ground and short out the starter if you use something metal. But this is a sign that your starter is going out and it is time to rebuild or replace it.
