I don't normally do a lot of driving in central London and This is why. Lawless cyclist. 20 mile an hour speed limits. And traffic everywhere.
Just the usual bunch of idiots in this video.
It's just me driving in and around London mainly in the Surrey areas seeing stupid drivers everywhere I go.

Well, since @zbf5hj67 appears to have deleted his further comment, I'll add it back here, and reply. "Stephen Hargreaves So, is it a case for bicycles being licenced (note spelling) or for the riders to be licenced? Would a cyclist be permitted to ride multiple bicycles and vice versa. Bearing in mind that all people over the age of majority including cyclists, pedestrians, horse riders, sailors, swimmers, pogostickists etc are already legally responsible for their actions, what more are you expecting to achieve. " I did note the incorrect spelling of "licensed", thank you. This is a channel from the UK, and I'm in the UK. You know, the nation that invented the English language. And I don't care how it's done, as long as the cyclist can be identified and prosecuted for breaking the law.

@trevorberridge6079

The long and short of it is that it's harder to track down cyclists as they aren't required to have a license plate or equivalent. Police can manage it if they really want to, but they can't be arsed. It's not a high profile issue for them. The thing is at least two cyclists are seriously injured or killed on London roads every week. Not always their own fault it must be said. But, putting pressure on those cyclists that flout the rules of the road would make it safer for everyone. If a flimsy bike with a bag of flesh on top gets into a collision with a ten ton truck we know whose coming off worse. And the poor driver will then have to live with knowing someone died under his wheels.

I know they don't have to stop and start again but that's the only reason I can think of and, considering the speed of cars in London, they'll get where they're going just as soon without running red lights. I cycled in london many times, the dangers of stopping with the traffic and starting as a tonne of cars trucks and white vans coming screaming past you cutting you up at the first parked vehicle are far greater than pre-empting the lights and getting ahead of the traffic. It is obviously against the rules but id suggest the rules are written at a time when traffic was as bad as it is today. Look at the number of people who get crushed up against rails I can only say they would be alive today if they could get ahead of the traffic

@@edj4833 So by that logic, if I ride a moped that is not very heavy and no faster than a decent cyclist, can I ignore road rules too? Of course not. @@bty2550 you misread my comment. I clearly stated I don't agree with red light jumping, in the very first sentence. My point is that people jump on cyclists as being the main risk to pedestrian safety, when by a factor of one hundred the culprit is the traditional motor vehicle.

@@bty2550 yeah, but you answered me as if I'm supporting red light jumping, which I'm not. The key point is not that it is OK to jump red lights, it's that people often slam cyclists as the biggest rule breakers and biggest problems for road safety, when a good majority of vehicles exceed speed limits, tailgate, etc etc and a substantial aggressive minority really don't care about anyone else but themselves. Most people, unlike other countries in Northern Europe, struggle to give kids the independence to walk around by themselves, not because of all the cyclists, but because of the behaviour of vehicles. Yes this is a discussion about red light jumping, but I'm arguing that many drivers are hypocritical in painting cyclists as rule breakers when the majority break a lot of rules too to more dangerous effect.

I'm far too terrified to break the rules of the road when I'm out cycling. I can't help but imagine the day I go through a red, or into the wrong lane (especially oncoming like some of these nutters) is the day I get struck by another vehicle and either end up badly injured or dead. And I absolutely _hate_ having a long line of traffic stuck behind me, if I'm travelling down a road that doesn't have enough passing space (like a smaller road with rows of cars parked on one side / both sides). It just makes me feel self-concious and uncomfortable knowing the cars are being slowed down to a crawl because of me. So I usually try and find a safe spot to pull over, and wave the line past and then get going again once it's clear. Makes me more comfortable, feel safer _and_ has the added benefit of surprising the motorists in a positive manner and make their commute just a teeny bit less stressful. I usually get quite a few waves of thanks or thumbs up for it, which is always nice :)

Which is why I've always wanted to live where there are castles, keeps, Manor homes, etc..... The house I live in is at least 80 years old if not older... I think historical buildings and homes should be maintained.... Charleston, South Carolina has an awesome area down town and on the water front surrounding battery park where the homes etc are 300 plus years old, and is kept just like it was back then, gas lamps, no pavement, it's just stunning.... At 1:26 in the video, there's a zebra crossing with lights. In Portugal, the rules follow a hierarchy: Police hold the highest authority, followed by Semaphores (the lights), vertical signals, and lastly, road markings. While all are crucial, if there's ambiguity, hierarchical power should prevail. So, in this case, traffic lights should take precedence over the zebra crossing. However, if the lights are malfunctioning for some reason, then the zebra crossing rules should apply. I'm not certain about the UK procedures, but it's likely similar, I presume.

8:13 The law requires cyclists to stop at a red light but it does not require pedestrians to stop on a red man. So they are not as bad as each other. A red man sign is merely an indication to the pedestrian that red light for vehicular traffic may not be on and so vehicles can proceed if safe to do so, but pedestrians can still cross and have priority over the waiting traffic.

@@Matty27 yes, because you are then risking not being able to stop in an adequate distance if a child steps out in the road, even at 5mph over, which as kinetic energy is squared, is quite a lot. In a two ton speeding piece of metal, this is significant. Whilst I don't agree with skipping reds on a bike, it's not a major cause of accidents as the cyclists that do it treat them as yields, which is what happens at other junctions anyway. The cyclists that do it don't enter them when drivers are doing 30. According to studies only about 2% of bike related collisions happen when bikes are skipping reds, a majority happen when cars emerge without looking or when cars ram bikes from behind. This is my experience, I have to be super careful to check that an emerging driver is going to stop for me, but on a lot of reds I'm stopping out of respect for the highway code, not immediate threats to my safety.

Oh LDC about the zebracrossing. In the Netherlands the rule is: If it is combined with trafficlights, it is the following. If the lights are active, the crossing does not count, however pedestians have to use it within 300 meters. If The lights are not functioning, the Zebra gets priority and also the 300 meter rule.

600m diversion to cross the road? no jaywalking within 20m or so would be acceptable but 300m is excessive. In UK the council can only impose no-cross areas by metal barriers since there aren't any jaywalking laws.

Morning after a concert at Finsbury Park. Summer 2022. Sat outside the cafe to the entrance to the park, by the travelodge, 4 way lights with box junction, drank a tea and had breakfast and lost count within 5 minutes of the number of cyclist red light jumpers and beeped horns as they nearly got mown down, then they had the audacity to swear at motorists. Yes motorists are by no means perfect, but can you imagine if cars just disregarded reds. Chaos.

Was looking at the clip with the cyclists over the line (mum waited). I actually think they should be able to pull forward that much. Make the front area the cyclist's stop zone and what was their zone should be boxed. So many times I've seen them almost taken out as they wobble start to pedal. Better for them to be out there with the gap to get them started before they become an issue to other road users. That said it's not exclusively them, the little boy racers fresh from a 6 hour session Gran Turismo or GTA pose more of a threat to them but they cycle like they're invincible I think they forget we motorists are encased in metal etc (hard shell editions lol) whereas they are encased in lycra and skin (both super soft and tearable, I'm sure you'll agree). I know I'd rather approach them when they're stable and pedalling smoothly and not the wobbly 4 year old, but hey that's just my opinion. Another great vid LDC, 👍👍👍

You missed a big one. At 20:58 there's a guy on an electric scooter. He's riding in a perfectly legal manner. He's going in the right direction, he's not speeding or going obstructively slow and (as far as I know) he hasn't gone through a red light. However, privately owned electric scooters are not currently legal on the road. They can't legally go faster than 12.5mph even if they are legally hired from an approved hire company. Because they have a motor they are required to be licensed and insured, but the laws for that have not been finalised. As a result they cannot comply with insurance requirements and cannot legally register their scooters. To be clear they aren't breaking the law (as long as they stay below 12.5mph), they just haven't been made legal.

Look at these two mupet pedestrians waiting cos the red man is showing! 7:58 the guy with the hard had shows them how to cross ... needless obeying of stop signs !

I cycle to get around and you see all these bozo's just doing as they please though honestly it's because when on a bike and everyone else is doing it, you feel a bit like an idiot for following the rules. The amount of times I'll wait at lights and have other cyclists just pass through or go onto the pavements is annoying because when you're on the bike your brain goes... I could just do that too. I don't because hey I like being alive and safe but I get why they do.

Im a bus driver in Manchester and you see exactly the same issues with cyclists. Almost never- and I really do mean that- do they stop for a red light. They’ll happily risk it all by doing this, or squeezing up the inside of slow moving traffic, one way signs are optional and cycling on the footpath is ok. They are completely lawless because they are not held to account. Ive seen them run red lights in front of police vehicles; no consequences. Of course the cycle brigade will say that car drivers do things they shouldn’t be doing too, but the difference is that for vehicle drivers it’s a vast minority that are idiots- because they can be held to account. Cyclists as a vast majority- certainly in Manchester- do not follow any rules of the road.

ALL vehicles using the roads, should have registration plates, Insurance and the driver or rider have passed a proficiency test. The vehicle should also have working lights, brakes and tyres with adequate tread. Make the Law Equal and punish these cyclists. I once had a cyclist run red light, hit side of my car (£2,000 damage) he got up, jumped back on bike went way he came - I was stuck in traffic as it was one way. Reported it to Police, nothing done.

In my opinion, I reckon all cyclists should have an ID plate on them by law ( yes I know... where would you mount it - and that is a valid question). That way, the plate will then be registered to a rider / cycle and more of these red light jumping cretins can be reported by law abiding people and this will then stop them. Again... this is just my opinion and whether you agree or not, going through a red light is just wrong.

17:36 as a cyclist this is why we need to get rid of cycle lanes, I prefer the road it’s actually safer as long one is observant follows the Highway Code and if giving way to other faster moving vehicles if helps the flow of traffic as if one does this the roads for cyclists are a none issue Roads are only dangerous if you make yourself a target 🎯

Strongly disagree. We need to get rid of rubbish cycle lanes, the high quality ones can stay. Whilst you and me may be confident on the road, there are a whole load of people who don't cycle due to well founded safety concerns, ie a minority of aggressive incompetent drivers. In Netherlands a massive cycling population is achieved by having a great cycle infrastructure, hence you regulary see 80 year old grandmothers going to and fro by bike.

You can't do anything about cyclists jumping red lights from a car - moaning about it isn't going to achieve anything. When I lived in London I used to take a more direct approach - hop on my own bike (making sure to regularly service the brakes!), overtake other cyclists and then slam on the stoppers for red lights! Great fun and good exercise!

No police but I did see 2 of our company trucks. Councils put in cycle lanes and truck manufacturers put in warnings and sensors and they even had their own traffic lights but still they put them selves in danger and don’t think of anyone else around them. If I ever knock a cyclist off when it’s his fault I won’t feel bad about it. I also ride a cycle to work some days and stop at the lights and I’m never late because I set off a bit earlier.
