I grew up in the southwest and know Brewster county, so I know the weather well. Here's hoping you can manage the heat. Two things to keep in mind, dust and heat are everywhere, you can't escape it. Solar is your best friend out there, next to water. Hope you get that established soon. Watch out for rattlers and them coming in close contact with your pets.
