Mase was an instant star because think about how much he stood out at the time. He had this really laid back, chill rap delivery and at the same time he was fun, likable, with an adorable smile and flashy style. He was so different from other rappers around that time! Plus after what happened with Big and Pac we needed to have some fun!

It worked though. People forget Puff was a bigger star than all his artists when they each first debuted. Puff had already made his name with Mary J, Jodeci, Father MC, etc. Him being in the videos was a marketing ploy and it worked.

This song represents the beginning of the Decline of Hip Hop. All flash and shallow arrogance with lyrics about nothing. I remember the late 90s quite sadly. By 2003, with the exception of a few Rawkus artists and Soulqaurian movement (Mos Def, Common, Outcast, etc.) Hip Hop was a vast wasteland.
