Warning: this video contains selfishly creative custom cars that will inspire you to start thinking outside of the box. A lot of these custom cars here at Galpin Speed Shop have helped shape Bad Chad into the artist he is today. Big thanks to Dave for the private tour and inspiration 🙏🏼

As a former Barris employee ('75-'81) I watched many of his cars grow old and deteriorate behind the shop in North Hollywood. It's really great to see them not only restored but improved as many of them really didn't run under their own power. That Pink Panther Limo took five guys to push while two guys wrestled the floor jack to steer it !!! The stories that go along with these cars are lost forever along with the legends who lived them. Many thanks to Dave and the crew at Galpin for keeping the flame burning.

There not lost if ppl like yourself share stories, and talk with others who was involved, I mean somebody has to do it, or it doesn't get done, right? Humans have lost so much history because they either didn't care or thought someone else will document it for them

40:33 those Jag rear ends can only handle about 350 lb ft of torque before they 'mark their territory ' all over the road. They can last forever if you drive nicely, but 1 too many burnouts and you're walking

Hey Kevin! I was watching this and saw your comment and had to check you out. Good to run across you here. We pushed those cars all over the shop! It's cool to see them in such good shape here. Geez, some of those we had at our house in Sylmar. I showed a few of those neighbor girls the "Sex Machine" back then!

This was an amazing video. I met Roth when I was 14. A buddy of mine bought one of his trike kits and when we went to the shop in Maywood Roth was getting ready to head out with a bunch of his buddies on a bike trip. Told us to come a long. You can imagine what my 14 year old brain was saying. Later I met him again in Buena Park. He was painting for Knott's then and used the print shop next door to the Auto Parts store I worked at. That was where I also met Von Dutch. He was working/sleeping down the street at Car's of Stars. He was definitely a interesting person to talk to. He talked about build a house out of stainless steel so it would never rot or rust. This really brings back so many memories of my youth. Thank you Chad.

WOW!!! I grew up with "most" of these cars during the time these were "new" customs , I was one of those "kids" attracted to the car shows due to these cars. It has been a lifelong love! It is great that someone has given the care needed to retrieve, rebuild and give the love to keep them going for the future. Thank you!

Thanks Chad & Jolene for the tour. Growing up a car nut in the 50's I remember most of these cars from the little custom car magazines I got from the local drug store magazine rack. I had the pleasure of meeting Ed Roth and George Barris at the local Cavalcade of Customs where I was an exhibitor. I had so much respect for both men even though their businesses were very different. For Big Daddy Roth unfortunately the clock struck 12 for him a few months later. It's great to see some of their creations in one place.

This is some of the absolute best camera work I've seen on KZfaq! So many content creators screw up their camera work, nausea-inducing fast panning, they don't stay on something long enough (so I have to ride the space bar), or they don't zoom in on interesting stuff, etc. etc. Five stars for Jolene. Amazing.

Meeting George before he passed will forever be one of my greatest achievements. A child hood friends dad passed and ive always heard storys of him being big in the car world. Being a stunt driver for the original dukes of hazard. Racing in nascar. Building old hotrods. All i seen was a older guy that owned a little tiny garage. But at his small funeral just friends and family to see george walk in brought every story ive heard come true and it was mindblowing.

These cars are sure in the right hands, I built a lot of these models. American Classics. I live 30 minutes north of Detroit and always went to the Autorama in my teens 1975 to 1980, and yeah we went to see the crazy stuff, just an insane collection of Barris classics. Todays new generation just doesn`t get these old crazy customs, we had a space race going on in those days, and for me as a kid to see a car with a domed bubble roof recreated the Jetsons, stunning collection to say the least.

Much respect to the galpin family organization for preserving this stuff. Saw a Roth display at the Peterson where a photo showed chicken wire being used as the foundation for a custom body.. they also showed the rotar, which was only displayed for the last three days of the show, after some negotiations to secure the viewing, where it had wooden propellers , and a story about part of a blade flying off at the first public showing and killing a guy, never to be used again. The city where he had his shop in still crammed with auto shops, I get my corvette fixed in that town. Photos of Roth of working back in the day showed a pretty scroungy looking dude, the type of guy the people who now pay big money for his cars would avoid as low class. His personal grooming became an issue with his sponsors after the model kits started attracting kids to the shows , so he changed into a top hat and tails, with the top hat becoming his trademark. he believed trikes were the future of personal transportation, so he stopped building cars completely, building only trikes from then on.

As a 74 year old Englishman in London, this took me back to a childhood infatuated with all things American especially cars, due to my family’s early connection to many US Navy (all high ranking officers) families billeted around Wimbledon where I spent my childhood. They all brought their personal vehicles over during their time stationed here so I got to be a passenger in my fantasy cars, ‘56 Fairlane, T Birds, BelmAirs, Impalas, etc.

I used to hang out at Georges shop as a kid. I actually sat in one the the Batmobiles he had there. The Monkeys Mobile is what caught my attention and I would do what ever just to be around there. Seeing this collection hit home with me. The last time I saw George was at the Auto Rama in Cleveland many years ago. We talked for a long time. So many great memories from both Ed and George. Dutch was good to me and people he liked ( Kenneth Harvey ) he taught me how to stay with it and become a striper. I was 15 when I saw the Car Craft magazine ( small format ) featuring him when he worked in a body shop. He sent me letters on how to mix paint, brushes and so forth. I'm 84 now and still stripe here in Hawaii.
