The reason behind this is that these movies set the tone for a lot of generic tropes. American "classics" are quite predictable, always about some hero's journey - And if it's a war movie then your options are even more limited. Making guesswork a lot easier.

You're comparing timelines like apples & oranges. Back in Bobby & Andrew's days, good content was scarcer whereas nowadays all you have to do is go online. Hence why people don't go back to classics as much anymore. I think you're missing out on just as much as I am, we both have equal amounts of time and just allocate it differently. Old movies will be old and eventually take a backseat to everything else that comes after it.

Everything about them just seems worse to me, from the acting to the editing to the visual and/or practical effects. That's why I still haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies. Just looks bad in every aspect.

I remember how much i cried the first time I saw Shawshank Redemption and it hit the scene where Nick gets sprayed with bullets on the Titanic during the battle of Shawshank, while Deshaun watches on impotently, totally unable to save his friend.
