I had a special guest drop by for some much needed maintenance. Hubnut and his 2001 Ford Fairmont were treated to an oil change, air filter, spark plugs and a transmission service.
Hubnut is currently touring New Zealand and all of the wonderful things it has to offer. If you don't know who Hubnut is check out his channel here:

Bit of a surprise I must have been lucky, my Au series 1 had a drain plug. Looking at that trans fluid it hasn't had any love for a while. Going by the metallic fallout been low for a while. If it was going to be a long term keeper it would probably be worth doing the fuel filter and slipping out an injector to check their filters. Dead easy job if not a bit fiddly and if they are dirty it really livens them up. Also the fuel rail pressure regulators suffer from blockages in these as well another cheap fix and when you replace the standard unit you can fit an Tickford VCT/xr6 unit that gives a bit more injector pressure that adds a little more power. Great Video.

Also note if the fill plug is to tight you can fit a 16 mil hex but not a 12 point (as it’s easier to round off!) And get a breaker bar it will give you better leverage and fits this ensures you that you will not strip the bolt, it can be over tightend don’t over tighten them just snug and little bit torque is good enough. Good vid👍

A bit bizarre referring to a manual for torque tightening sequence. Odd thinking 4·5Nm is a bit low and then you go and say you've got the right oil for the car. How can it be when it's got Castrol written on the container ? mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us/pvl/products/automatic-transmission-fluids/mobil-type-f-atf/products/mobil-type-f-atf-automatic-transmission-fluid.jpg

It is a slap in the face (so to speak) to manufacture the oilpan without a drain plug!! Seems Scotty Kilmer is O.K. with spill and fill but not with complete flush. Cheers from Canada

It's annoying but I guess it's fairly easy to drop the pan then at least you can clean the magnet whilst you're in there. Can't say I've ever paid much attention to anything Scotty has said.

@@Badgertronix The problem with dropping the pan is often access, with undertrays in the way, with dozens of either seized or easily broken fasteners. This can often turn a relatively straightforward job into a nightmare. It's why I bought hand operated suction pump to do friends and family's oil changes. I'd rather undo a sump plug but have had bad experiences with said undertrays. Luckily Ian's car didn't seem to have one?

Bloody awesome cars to have. Pretty sure you could have filled it though the tranny dipstick, save you being uncomfortable under the old girl. 80 in first is kinda stupid for Australian roads.

I think Scotty Kilmer warns against the commercial pressure flushing machines offered in the USA more than the type of fluid change featured in this video. The pressure flushers will disturb and reditribute any crud hiding harmlessly in "backwaters" of the system. He does seem to be a doom and gloom merchant at times with such advice as "don't look at your car this way or it'll destroy itself in five minutes"! But his advice is basically sound. My car (Honda Accord) has a combined dipstick/filler tube so I can use a hand operated suction pump to drain it and refill from above.

It will still be better than before, the brake band 'dust' goes into the oil, the filter must remove the worst, but something must remain.
@millomweb
@millomweb 4 жыл бұрын
@@Radfordperson The 'dust' should be fairly harmless - to soft to cause gear wear and too small to prop valves open far enough to be an issue.

Man that fluid is shagged black. At 9.35 you can clearly see the rear servo is leaking. Should have carried out this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZmcaceUvr3VoHU.html repair as well.

Why would anyone buy a new car over there as the old ones do not seem to rust away like they do in the uk I think that I would still be driving my 1965 vauxhall cresta with a 3.3 cc engine I loved it but rust got the better of it in the end back in the 1970s.

This is not the way , you want to do a proper full transmission flush by removing transmission line and pumping fluid through car until fluid goes clear while engines running ! All you are doing here is leaving old trans fluid in torque convertor which contaminates any new fluid , now there are people who claim dont do trans flushes however they are wrong
@Badgertronix
@Badgertronix 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say that you're wrong. For this car I'd just change the fluid again next time it was serviced then most of the old fluid will have been replaced without the risks of flushing

Better not to flush , if the fluid is dirty/burnt like this , just do another service ( changing the filter ) in a short interval , changing 4 litres out of 9 odd total a couple of times will see nice clean red fluid .

OMG - 3:15 - what kind of rubbish is that? Every box containg oil and other liquid stuff in engines should have a single plug on the bottom to let fluids out.... And from 17:00 , some crazy refilling. Pump oil in from below and wait for it to run out of the box, then it´s done :-) Some hillbilly Ford engineering here. Cheers, Bernd
