Nice tip for installing the glass onto the foam tape is to spray the tape with glass cleaner before putting the glass up to it. It allows you to move it about until your happy with the position, and once the cleaner has dried it will still be stuck to the glass.

This is amazing! Can't wait for the rest of the series. You should do an extra episode to go through people's questions and most importantly the budget. Also would be nice to know what you would do differently if you had to do it again and where people with less skills or money could simplify the project. That last one might be difficult though. One of things I love about this series is the fact that it appears fairly simple and budget friendly.

When I did mine it was very similar to the way you did it except I used glazing putty. You don't seem to see that used these days. Maybe it is because my windows were single glazed as we are talking 40 years ago when double glazing was not used that much in the UK. Thanks for posting.

You could, apparently not recommended for some sealed units. Another reason is it takes an age with linseed putty before you can paint..

£14 for 8 double glazing units! You overpayed Matt 😉😉😉🤣 what a steal! It will compensate for the extortionate cost of wood slightly Clearly you didn't clad it soon enough so it needed some plants in front to make it prettier in the mean time

Nice job. When you're doing the windows for your shop, lift the glass units up off the timber with packers. A couple of secret drainage holes that come out under the cill would be good too. That'll help stop the seal on the units getting wet and breaking down. If you have any openers that are side hung, toe and heel the glass with packers to help stop the hinges dropping. 👍

Excellent work Matt, I am very impressed. And I think you really felt the benefit of all those new tools. Great job fitting the glazed panels but I'm wondering how tricky replacing a window [if it gets broken] will be.

Shouldn't be to bad, i would probably use screws on the inside to make it obvious, or use conventional wood beading.

Lovely job again! I'm watching out for some reclaimed windows for my project but will now broaden that search to include looking for some salvaged glass panes too. I've asked a similar question before: Is it just experience that tells you the pine will be stable enough throughout the changing weather?
@geoffreycoan

Very nice job Matt, I was expecting there to be lots of routing going on to rebate the frames, but your approach with the table saw and dowelled corner joints made it much easier to construct. The colour is lovely and the frames look really good, but was wondering when you painted did you cover the knots up first with knot sealer, then prime and undercoat? Just concerned how long the paint will last if it went straight onto the wood.

Some of the reviews I saw for the Bosch table saw said that it was a bit underpowered. I guess it depends on what you cut with it. I have a budget mains powered table saw from Screwfix (years ago) and its woefully underpowered, will stall with anything slightly thick so am looking for a new one at some point. Some of the prices are eye watering though

Very professional work as usual , I am curious were you manage to find such good timber for the windows . It makes any project so much easier when the wood is actually straight and not full of defects , as in what is usually available in most DIY outlets . Best wishes and kind regards 😀👍👍👍

Why didn’t you just put the glazing tape right towards the front edge because 1/2 of that tape isn’t doing anything as there’s a void In between the glass and the rebate. Also if you moved it to the front then you wouldn’t have to silicone the whole as there’s no chance of water getting in there, also when you come to paint the windows again the paint won’t stick to the silicone. We also do wet glazing where we fill the void in between the unit and the rebate with silicone so no water can even get in behind the bead. Great work just some points you might like to hear as I am a joiner thanks
