I loved flying the 146 for WestAir - It was comfortable, quiet and the only problem was it was slower than other transport jets, generating requests from ATC to "go faster". "Unable" ended up with vectors off our course "for faster traffic"...

All down to Tony Benn MP who had the utmost faith in the Hawker Siddeley / BAe Hatfield work force. Without him I wouldn't have worked there from 1970 to 1986 as a very proud 146 aircraft engineer.

And Helene Hayman, the Labour MP for Welwyn Hatfield October 1974-May 1979. Much better than the Tory dross that followed.

This prototype Aircraft used to fly over my school almost daily in the early 80’s. As an adult I worked on the RJ85/100 . It was like a flying tank. Very strong

Proud to be a part of making these aircraft . Great memories of BAE Hatfield 1986 - 1993.

My favorite on Northwest as well. And due to scope clause issues, they were incredibly roomy with 16 F seats and only 50-something in coach.

Sad to say only a few are still flying this 2020. Many are grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nice to see this docu.

Tony Benn saving thousands of jobs, never see the media portraying him that way, too busy vilifying him as a villain
@grahamfigg5817 Жыл бұрын
Benn had learned to fly the Mosquito at the end of the war, just missing combat so obviously had an affinity with Hatfield products!

Hands down one of the coolest airliners ever built. A British home run...wait, you guys don't watch baseball...It's a British... _six?_ I don't know. Anyway, I wish the UK didn't stop making airliners. They were great. Real classics.

It's good. CO2 spurs plants growth.
@Phos94 жыл бұрын
Andrew Piatek No it doesn’t, not how you’re thinking. CO2 is also colorless, that’s soot from water injection.

40 minuts by plane back in these days but today it takes 4 hours by plane because you got security checkpoint, hiking to the gate, 40 minuts flight, another time hiking to the badgage clame, today trains are faster than flying on short haul route. So these mini Lockead Galaxy isn't needed anymore.

Flew one from Paris to Florence, nice plane but a bit cramped.

If the seating was 3-3 it would have been tight. Others, like Crossair, had 2-3.

Bad cabin air quality
@Gwailo544 жыл бұрын
I flew on it at least one return trip a year and never had any issues. The cabin crew at Swiss loved working on it.
