The Dreadnought class submarine will be the Royal Navy’s biggest, most powerful and most technically advanced submarines when they begin to enter service from the early 2030s and will play a pivotal role in the nation’s defence and security for decades to come. Work on the first two boats in the class is well underway at the Company’s shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, with £2.5 billion worth of contracts have already been placed with suppliers across the UK.

This guys referring to how the German U-boats during the war when first introduced were completely un-matched, uboats had total domination of the season, destroying any ship they came across for years, this almost won the Germans the war because of them destroying supply ships and causing mass starvation, the british invented early radar systems to catch these U-boats and after that was introduced, U-boats became underwater coffins - German crews of uboats were so unlikely to survive their missions German commanders told them to "just come home alive" at the start of their missions

You don't need these, they are huge, over twice the size of SSNs, and designed to deliver thermonuclear weapons. Astute, or equivalent, is what is required. I wouldn't be surprised if the UK based a couple of Astutes in Oz until you have your own; building SSNs is serious engineering, it will take at least a decade for Oz to be in a position to build their own hulls and Oz will have to get the reactors built in USA or UK.

Dreadnought Class will be the first to use the British PWR-3 (Mark 3 Reactor Version). "PWR3 was a new system "based on a US design but using UK reactor technology". The Royal Institution of Naval Architects reported that it was likely that the UK was given access to the US Navy S9G reactor design used in their Virginia-class submarines. The PWR3 was a simpler and safer design with a longer life and lower maintenance requirements than the PWR2 variants and cost roughly the same as the PWR2b. The PWR3 has 30% less parts compared to the PWR2." *Don't worry we share are technology with America also, there is actually a BAE Systems manufacturer in the USA that makes the Pump-jet Propulsion for the Virginia Class and previously the Seawolf Class. They also make the VPM module the Virginia Class.

European nuclear deterrence (in this case France & the U.K.) has always been important given the threat from, in the past the Soviet Union & now Russia. There has always been a whispering within the NATO alliance that America cannot be depended upon to come to Europe’s defense in the event of an invasion from Russia. The current U.S. President/Vice President is indeed such the case. That’s why Russia is in Ukraine. Teddy Roosevelt coined the phrase: Speak softly but carry a big stick. So true.

Let's not forget only a few decades ago the USA drew up plans to attack Britain. Sure we are allies now, but that can change if we ever refuse one of their demands. This special alliance always has felt more one sided than a true alliance.

Those countries always will have these undetectable stealth nuclear deterrents in the back of their minds when talking and dealing with Britain. Without this deterrent i dread the cost to Britain.

Meanwhile, the US leased UK "deterent" failed lol, Outlining what happened, The Sun said the Trident 2 missile was propelled successfully from under the water into the air by compressed gas in the launch tube. But its first-stage boosters did not ignite and the 60-tonne missile - fitted with dummy warheads - splashed into the Atlantic Ocean and sank. A source told the newspaper: "It left the submarine but it just went plop, right next to them."🤭🤫
