From the loading of luggage, safety checks, and the final pushback of the Airbus 319 there is a lot of activity going on beneath the plane every time you fly.
This video takes you through the entire process through eyes of ground crew chief.
1:17 Loading luggage into the “bin” of the Airbus A319
1:52 Inside the “bin” of the Airbus A319
10:00 Closing of “bins” and preparing Airbus A319 for departure
12:34 Disconnecting from ground power and air conditions in preparing for departure
14:08 Juice cart! The temperatures can be extreme on the ramp at Sky Harbor. The juice cart delivers much needed electrolytes to keep the crew hydrated.
15:10 Connection communication lines to A319
15:45 Final pre-flight checks
19:50 Jet bridge pullback, final pre-flight checks
20:55 Pushback of Airbus A319 from gate.

I'd be TERRIBLE at that job because I'd be watching all the planes taking off, landing, taxiing by, etc. I'm on a flight path for Andrew's Air Force Base & I'm often running out the door when I hear extra loud aircraft: C-17 cargo jets, V-22 Osprey (always in pairs), Air Force One 747, or Marine One helicopters! You bet, great channel with interesting content! It was a rather small turbo prop that we had to load, it was nothing like loading an A320 or 737! The 320 is a common type rating with no additional training required. You do have to be aware of the increased tail length so you don’t hit the tail on a 321 and there are other minor differences between all 3 variants. Unlike the type rating on the 767 which also gives you the type rating on the 757 after a short differences course. And vice versa. 😊

I worked in the aerospace industry most of my career, with the last twenty or so in an Airbus group company. I saw displays of alternative cabin layouts at the Paris or Farnborough Air Shows or the unbelievably complex wiring diagrams during assembly at Toulouse for an A380, but somehow I never really got involved with the more routine side of the operation like this. You learn something every day. A very interesting and informative video. Thank you.

Your attention to detail is remarkable; the quality of your work is exemplary and your dedication to your work can be infectious to others. Great stuff!! Question: do the bags get weighted and assembled in such a manner as to insure good weight and balance in the cargo holds?
@ladyandtheramp
@ladyandtheramp Ай бұрын
Yes! So each bag is designated as 34lbs. Except if they are marked “heavy”, their weight is calculated at 55 lbs. We have a weight and balance sheet with a load plan for each flight that we adhere to. We know how many bags are needed in each compartment to keep that plane weighted correctly for that specific flight.

When I used to work in the airline industry, ladies that liked to stay in shape and had high seniority to bid whatever shift they wanted, they picked the cooler beautiful seasons to do some ramp work and get some physical work done. In e summer hit and hurricane season, they went back to gate or ticket counter, smart ones

If I may suggest, when attempting to get the pilot's attention and approval for disconnect, carry some 2-4" river rocks in your pocket and toss them at the side window to get their attention. That technique could be adopted across the airline and get you huge praise with management.
