Күн бұрын

On this gorgeous February 2017 day Heath and I did some island hopping in the Bahamas. Stopped at Freeport first for passport control and then after filing our VFR cruising plan, made a stop at Marsh Harbor and then continued on to Farmer's Cay for lunch at Ty's which was an amazing surprise.
On the way back (not on the video) we stopped by Nassau to clean passport control and exit the Country and flew into KFXE for US CBP and customs and then back to Boca in the evening.
A great day and we both learned a lot about what it takes to fly internationally!
Enjoy!

I have been flying into the same island for many years but we always fly into Treasure cay and clear customs there, it is on the same island just a little farther west and the fees are cheaper and the service is fast as very little traffic and there is no airline service there. Also a beautiful place to stay with the Wife and child, you would love it. We always stay at the marina hotel and not too expensive.... Great video..... Smitty

Niko, another nice video. Don't mean to be nit-picking, but, your copilot's reference to "we have the barometer," (He was referring to the Alt. setting) is actually incorrect. As an "old" (I mean old, :) Avionics/Instrument person, the "Altimeter Setting" is local Barometric Pressure (Barometer) "corrected" to present sea level pressure). Due to your location, the Baro and Alt. Setting would be fairly much the same - but not exactly. Sorry for being picky. Also, your Intro Music is absolutely outstanding - really sets the mood. I'm learning a lot from you. Thanks, N-6395T

Had to set the "QNH" into both altimeters. Seems to me we flew to Bulgaria, picked up a Navigator who helped fly into Moscow. I really enjoy your videos, many thanks. James I'm not a pilot . What is a Jepp trip kit and what are approach plates for Freeport please ? Thank You !
@jamesrankin1041
@jamesrankin1041 6 жыл бұрын
Hi - approach plates / charts describe how to fly an instrument procedure, like an ILS approach, into an airport. In the US, they are electronically freely available from the FAA. For the Bahamas, getting these requires a purchase, usually from a chart company called Jeppesen.
@bobshaw4063
@bobshaw4063 6 жыл бұрын
James Thanks for the explanation. Another Question What is an ILS approach please ?
@NikosWings
@NikosWings 6 жыл бұрын
It is a procedure that uses very sensitive instruments on the ground and on the aircraft in order to safely help the pilot to get to the runway within 200 feet above ground and with in some cases 1/2 mile of visibility or less. They are extremely helpful especially when an autopilot can fly them automatically because it is an extremely safe way to bring an airplane as close as possible to a visible part of the airport aligned perfectly with the runway for a safe landing. Here is a wiki article en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_landing_system and here is one of my videos flying an ILS into Chicago. This one was pretty close to minimum visibility and cloud coverage: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6qcmqd0mJu9iX0.html and this one kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibF3i8WElq7VaIE.html

Flying the islands is expensive compared to the USA and airport and customs fees are the same for us Bahamian pilots as for visitors. Fuel ranges $7-8/gallon. South of The Bahamas (E.g. Jamaica, TCI, DR) you are hit with handling fees on top of everything else. And down there is no US Coast Guard and few cruise ships to help you out if you have to ditch. Its Better in The Bahamas :)

I guess technically, an EPIRP is a large floating one with ballast so it stays upright used on boats. Then there is an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) used on aircraft that sense a large g-force (crash) and go off automatically. And then there is the small lightweight type that you can carry called a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). But they all do exactly the same thing. I used to sail on cargo ships, so I almost always call all of them EPIRBs...lol
